Hello, I am hoping someone can offer some guidance in selecting a deco router.

I currently have 6 Deco M5's around my house and they are working superbly in AP mode. My ISP has forced me to use their hardware (it's Telstra fixed 5g modem router for those interested), however I have now been able to upgrade to FTTP (fibre to the premise) on the NBN network which allows me to ditch the locked down modem/router.

I would like to go back to having a deco as the router mode by replacing the existing modem router with a new Deco device.

What would be suitable to handle the gigabit connection speed?

notes:

- It would go straight into a 48-port managed switch, so lan ports is not a concern

- WiFi performance is not a concern as the M5's are providing adequate speed for what is connected.

- The ability to set my own DNS server is desired (local adguard/pihole to be used)

- IP reservation is a must

Deco M5 has gigabit Ethernet ports. I would recommend keeping M5s and have one of your M5 as Main Deco. Only if Main Deco M5 can't handle the load in Router mode it would make sense to look for a replacement.

I would suggest to just try it with M5 as Main Deco.

Deco M5 has a set of quite nice features that you might lose if adding another Deco model. Do you use the following with your Deco mesh:

1. "Test Internet Speed" button in Deco app;

2. IoT network;

3. Connection preference feature?

If "yes," especially for 2 and 3, then you might lose them. The 1 is nice but not very necessary feature, losing it should not be a big deal.

In case you don't, and really want to add something new to the mix of M5s, here are my recommendations:

1. Deco M9 Plus - should be most compatible with M5 mesh, with slightly more powerful hardware. Unfortunately, you can't buy these new in single units, just 2-unit and 3-unit sets;

2. Deco X50 PoE - if you really like M5 form factor and want new Deco with similar form factor;

3. Deco X55.
