Archer NX200 prefers LTE connection instead of 5G (even if available)
Archer NX200 prefers LTE connection instead of 5G (even if available)

Country: Italy
SIM Operator: Iliad
Issue 1:
I have been using the Archer NX200 router for two months. During the first month, the router connected correctly to the 5G NSA network, providing good download and upload performance, as well as strong signal reception (Bands N28 + B7, B3, B20).
However, since the router updated to the latest firmware version, it no longer connects to 5G. Instead, it prefers LTE Plus over 5G. When I insert the SIM card into a smartphone, the 5G network is detected and functions correctly.
I suspect the issue is that the LTE signal is stronger than the 5G signal, and the router prioritizes LTE. Unfortunately, this results in significantly lower performance.
I am unable to force the router to connect to 5G because it is a 5G NSA network: if I set the connection to "5G Only," the router disconnects from the network entirely.
It would be helpful if the next firmware update included an option to prioritize network selection, similar to the settings available on smartphones.
Waiting for updates, how can I resolve this issue now?
Issue 2 (correlated to 1):
At the moment, the router is connected to the B20 and B3 bands in LTE Plus.
When I perform a manual search, these bands are not detected and therefore cannot be selected manually; they can only be selected automatically.
The same behavior occurs with the N28 band (5G NSA).
As a result, any manual configuration is overridden, and you are forced to rely entirely on automatic selection.

I have the same modem with the same firmware version and I am connected stably in 5G even though I have selected the band choice automatically. I publish the screenshots of the network connection status of my modem, for a comparison with yours. I hope they are helpful.

Hello, I have a similar issue, my router will randomly connect to a regular LTE band overnight and stay there, despite having very good signal to band 78 throughout the day. If I do a manual search, it wont display such bands, only up to B20.
If I disable and enable mobile data it'll connect to the 5G NSA band but still, it'd be great if you guys could fix this, I don't know if it's caused by the new firmware as I've only had the router for a week and one of the first things I did was update to the current firmware so
Thank you

You’re lucky to have a strong and stable 5G signal on the N78 band—that’s not the case for me. Recently, I’ve managed to connect to N78 as well, but only by manually selecting the band. The signal strength never goes above 50%.
If I switch to automatic search, the router connects to LTE, with a signal strength of 75% (sometimes even 100%). The performance (download/upload speed) is much worse.
Unfortunately, the issue is still there. Hopefully, it gets fixed in a future firmware update.

Yet if I do a manual search for either 4G or 5G none of these bands show up, only up to B20, please fix!

@bernj Hi, I can't answer you, I'm ignorant too. I can only tell you that within a 3km radius of my house there are 3 APNs that transmit in LTE (B7, B1, B3 and B20) and 5G. I left the band selection on automatic and the result is shown in the attached screen. I hope it's useful as a comparison.
