Model: Archer AX23
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.0 Build 20230725 Rel. 55602(5553)

Hello,

I was trying to set up an AX23 v1.20 with an RE315 via Ethernet Backhaul but the connection keeps on going Wireless Backhaul. Firmware on the AX23 and RE315 should support it according to EasyMesh Routers Support Building a EasyMesh Network via Ethernet Backhaul NOW - Home Network Community, as well as here TP-Link EasyMesh Devices.

Firmware on the RE315 was updated to 1.0.30 Build 230919 which is the supported version.

From what I have seen around, it might be a hardware version issue, although other regions (EU) do have support on their firmware for it. It would be a shame if that's the case.

Thank you in advance.

The RE315 region should not be a problem - check this post.

When the ethernet connection is unplugged the ethernet backhaul falls back to a wireless backhaul so try with another ethernet cable.

Thanks for answering! I was actually referring to the region of the AX23 main router.

Tested different cables, no change. Also tried different ports on the AX23 just in case it was an issue there, no change either. It keeps on pairing wirelessly instead of via ethernet, which is why I assumed it was related to the main router instead. Other regions list their firmware under the support page for the AX23 and list the Ethernet Backhaul addition, but for the US version, it seems to be only via web through the router itself and won't actually list any release notes on the main support page.

Hi,

Please use another wired device like your computer to test if the Ethernet ports on Archer AX23 and RE315 are working normally.

Besides, did you connect the RE315 directly to Archer AX23? Is there any switch in between?

Some regional support websites are not updated regularly.

This is from Argentina support portal (this FW is for the US region):

So AX23 FW should not be the culprit in this case.

Yes, other ports on the AX23 were tested and confirmed to be working. The RE315 is going to be behind a switch, but I also tested plugging it directly to the AX23 to rule that out. Also tested the ports on the AX23 with a laptop directly and everything works as intended.

If I switch the operating mode of the RE315 to Access Point instead, it detects the Ethernet connection just fine and works without issues. It's only when it comes to detecting the Ethernet Backhaul that becomes a problem.
