Model: Archer C80
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Archer C80(EU)_V1_210308 (latest version)

I've recently purchased the archer c80 for better signal strength and just in general to replace my isp's provided router (virgin super hub 3).

Everything has been great and it still is except for one issue. When I'm on FaceTime with someone I continuously get hit with the 'poor connection' message. This alternatively gets solved when I use my mobile data instead, but it can't always be like this.

Even when I'm right next to the router I still get the router. The speeds I get as expected for what I pay for is 100mb download and 10mb upload.

I've tried turning the router off and on, I also changed the WiFi channel. I've also upgraded to the latest firmware but no avail.

I'm yet to reset this to factory settings to see if that will do anything. I've seen other people have this issue but it seems they haven't received any solutions either.

I've also had another issue where the download speed just dropped to 60mpbs instead of it being 100mbps which was unusual but I believe that has been fixed. Hopefully

is there a solution to this? FaceTiming is quite urgent for me at the moment.

Thank you ever so much.

@Musaddik

If only FaceTime displays a 'poor connection', you can try to login to the router web GUI to change the Internet DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, then reboot the router and reconnect to the wireless on the phone to confirm.

You can also try to change the MTU on the C80 to 1420 or 1400.

@Kevin_Z

Hi, I have been having difficulty in changing the DNS servers through the router settings but I have done it from my phone instead, in which the problem still persists.

I'll try changing the numbers for MTU.

Thank you

@Kevin_Z

Hi

Hi there, I have tried your suggestions.

I have changed the dns servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

I have changed the MTU size to 1420

I have also replaced the router and got the same one. But still, no avail. Still says poor connection.

What can I do?

So the virgin superhub 3 is no longer in use, right? What kind of wireless security settings are on the C80? Try to change the security to WPA2-PSK, AES for both the 2.4G and 5G network, then reboot the router and the phone, reconnect to the network on the phone, and try FaceTime.

How about trying to connect to the Guest network on the C80, will FaceTime work properly?
