Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.2 Build 20170912 rel.56240(4555)

Hi.

My Archer C5400 shows disappointing speeds via WiFi or Gigabit Ethernet.

The speeds are actually the same, so the WiFi connection seems very solid.

But overall speed is disappointing.

I used to have a 1Gbps down / 300Mbps up internet connection.

I just upgraded it to 2 Gbps down / 600Mbps up (but ethernet is only 1Gbps, so the Archer should see 1Gbps down / 600 Gbps down.

I get the expected speed when connecting my MacBook Pro vie Ethernet to my ISP provided set top box: 950Mbps/600Mbps

With my old 2012 Apple Airprt Extreme I get 950Mbps/600Mbps vie Ethernet and 600Mbps/600Mbps via Wifi with unoptimized placement.

With my recent and expensive Archer C5400, I get only 600Mbps down/ 300Mbps up, which is just not good.

I actually called my ISP because I could not see the speed improvements.

I did not expect my Archer C5400 to cap uploads at 300Mbps!!!

This is significantly worser than my 2012 Airport Extreme or even my ISP provided STB via WiFi!!!!!

IfI cannot improve this speed, I will revertto my Airport Extreme, sell the Archer C5400 (too late to give it back) and look for a more speedy router.

I read in another thread that a beta firmware is available and should improve speeds.

Can you please send me a link?

Have a great day.

Jérôme.

@Kevin_Z

Thanks for the link.

The download's file name has "ArcherC5400x" and 'ver1" in int.

My router is a C5400 (not X) and has hardware V2. Can you confirm I will not brick it by flashing it with the firmware in the link you provided?

@Kevin_Z

I cannot update the firmware with this file.

My router is a European Archer C5400 with hardware version 2.

Thanks in advance and have a great day.

Jérôme.

@Kevin_Z

Thanks for the beta firmware.

It appears there was an issue with the router's config. I don't know what it was. The config is ver basic, with 14 IP reservations ans 4 port redirections.

I did a factory reset and ethernet speed immediately went up to what it is supposed to be: 950Mbps down/600 Mbps up to the internet.

I tried restoring from a backup, and ethernet speed to the internet again went down to 600/300 Mbps. So of cours I factory rest once more.

The beta firmware did not seem to make a difference but I kept it anyway.

Local transfer speed (ethernet to ethernet or WiFi from/to Ethernet) is ca.10% faster then the Airport Extreme, which is very good.

Now I just hope it will remain like that.

Thanks for your reply, glad to hear that this beta firmware seems better.

You can take more time to test its stability and performance, any updates, please let us know.

Have a good day.

I have the C5400 v2 with the latest stable firmware, 1.2.5 Build 20190411 rel.52981(5553).  I had to go into the QoS section of the Advanced tab to the home page of the router setting menu to manually edit the Total Bandwidth entry to 900 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up for my supposedly 600mbps Xfinity service.  At the wall of the house it was around 880 and at the modem it was around 680 or so.  Now, I get anywhere from 620 to 690.  No beta firmware required.

There is a button on the Basic tab of Network Map page named Speed Test.  When I tested, it would register no more than 315/12 and that is what showed up automatically in the Total Bandwith entry in both the QoS  Application Priority page and Device Priority page.  When I edited the QoS Application Priority page entry to 900/20, the bandwidth restriction to both my wired and wireless devices went away.  It also automatically changed the entry in the QoS Device Priority page to match so I didn't have to make duplicate entries.

Hope this helps...
