Model: Archer C5400
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.5 Build 20190411 rel.52981(4555)

I just upgraded my internet to a faster connection 1000Mbps download and 1000Mbps upload.

In the routers buildin speedtest it is testing the speed to around 210Mbps download and 200Mpbs upload.
On my computers i can succeed getting my speed up to 300Mbps download and 350Mbps upload on some servers using speedtest.net and if i am using fast.com i can get it a bit higher still not enough.

And when i connect to the cable directly before/without the router i get a much higher speed around 700-800 (which is not enough but that is my isp's job to fix that and they will send a technician to fix that part in a couple of days).

I have seen on another forum a downgrade of the firmware has fixed the problem i am just hoping for another solution.

Hope you can help.

Hi @Anders-i and all,

If you have ever encountered any speed issue with the Archer C5400 V2, please ensure first you are already on the latest firmware version which can be found and downloaded from the TP-Link official website:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/archer-c5400/#Firmware

If the speed is still not good as compared with that you can get from the ISP modem directly, log into the web interface of the C5400 and go to Advanced->QoS, manually set the speed to that you get from your ISP, and leave QoS on Standard, then reboot the router and confirm the speed again.

Let the community know if you still have inquiries, thanks a lot~

@Anders-i

Sorry to hear the speed is not as good as expected, please help verify some details and we will try to fix it together:

1. Please ignore the Speed Test on the router itself as it may not be precise due to some inner settings like QoS, so we will troubleshoot from the speed tested by speedtest.com or fast.com which is 300-400Mbps.

2. How did you test this speed via the router? Did you disconnect all the other devices from it and only leave one computer performing the test? How about the wired/wireless negotiation speed on that computer? Please verify it by referring to the instruction: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2265/

Note: For wired negotiation speed, it is the same; while you need right click on local area connection or ethernet.

3. Besides, you can refer to the instruction below to narrow down the issue.

What should I do if internet speed is slow when the device is connected to the TP-Link router?

Thanks in advance, and have a nice day.

@Solla-topee

1a. I will ignore the Speed test on the router then even tho i think it is a bit weird to add a feature on the router if its not working.
1b. Now you mention the QoS i have a feeling that the QoS has something to do with slow speed since i tried to play around with and got a bit higher speed tests. Is it possible to turn it off?

2. I had everything else connected on the network when i made my speed test but nothing on the network was downloading or uploading anything. Atleast not more than 1MB/s (8Mbps). All my test was on wired connection with cat6 cable on two different computer with same results. The negotiation speed on the computers wired connection is 1.0Gbps.

I have the C5400 v2 with the latest stable firmware, 1.2.5 Build 20190411 rel.52981(5553).  I had to go into the QoS section of the Advanced tab on the home page of the router setting menu to manually edit the Total Bandwidth entry to 900 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up for my supposedly 600mbps Xfinity service.  At the wall of the house it was around 880 and at the modem it was around 680 or so.  Now, I get anywhere from 620 to 690.  No beta firmware required.

There is a button on the Basic tab of the Network Map page named Speed Test.  When I tested, it would register no more than 315/12 and that is what showed up automatically in the Total Bandwidth entry in both the QoS  Application Priority page and Device Priority page.  When I manually edited the QoS Application Priority page entry to 900/20, the bandwidth restriction to both my wired and wireless devices went away.  It also automatically changed the entry in the QoS Device Priority page to match so that I didn't have to make duplicate entries.

Hope this helps...

@mikengail

Hey thanks that actually bumped my speeds up a bit but still think the QoS lowers the speed over time but lets see.
Thanks i really appreciate your answer! :)

@Kevin_Z
Sorry for the late reply..
The firmware (https://static.tp-link.com/beta/2021/202103/20210309/ArcherC5400_V2_210309.zip) upgrade you suggested worked for me...
But why can i only get the firmware from you and not from the website?

@Anders-i

The firmware we provided previously is not officially released yet, you will get an official version in the near future.

Any news on when this firmware will be officially released? Also, is the previous beta firmware link above compatible with the US version of the router? I want to try it to see if it will also fix my internet slowdown issue but the BIN in the zip has EU and not US so just checking before I mess up my router.

@Beck22179  Yes, this version is also working on the US hardware, you can update it and check if the slow down issue will be resolved.

@Anders-i So I had the same issue. Newest firmware improved things a bit but the trick for me was to, under system tools, turn on NAT boost. Doubled the speed I was getting. Now I'm getting 590 on a 600mb connection. I believe this works because when you enable it it disables use of QOS.

Hope it helps people.

W.
