No Internet via IPv6 in TP Link XC220 G3v V2 in Mobile Devices.

URGENT HELP NEEDED

From 17th Feb, I started getting IPv6 and IPv4 has been disabled in my area. BSNL reported some kind of maintenance so IPv6 will only work for few days. But the thing is I am able to open only IPv6 supported sites in PC but any mobile devices other than my PC can't connect. All mobile devices shows connected to WiFi without internet, but there is internet, my PC and laptop remains connected to internet. Even IPv6 was allocated to both my PCs and mobile devices. WAN IPv6 mode is SLAAC, in LAN I had set it to RADVD since only that works, I tried enabling RDNSS but that also didn't work.

In mobile nothing opens not even google, but I get IPv6 ping & trace-route response from google.com, dns servers, microsoft.com etc unlike PC where all of them opens and internet is shown connected.

Also there is another issue, my ONU now disconnects automatically and then reconnects to internet at 10mins interval regularly. Even devices connected to it gets disconnected at the same time and then reconnects back.

On 19th Feb 2025, I noticed firmware as 1.10.... but today when I am writing this post I noticed firmware as 1.13 and that I copied. I am suspecting a firmware upgrade has rigged this ONU. At this moment, only IPv6 is enabled and I am posting this from PC and getting IPv6 internet, mobile still shows no internet.

Also the QoS feature is gone in the update and this automatic update rigged my ONU.

Hi, thanks for your sharing here.

As XC220-G3v is a customized model by some ISPs only. In different regions or countries, there may be differences in hardware and firmware. So there is not universal firmware version. And we can know much less than common DSL modem routers. For the firmware update or Internet setup, it is suggested to contact your ISP or local support for further confirmation.

Best regards.

This issue is from the ONU itself not ISP. Kindly read thoroughly before commenting.

Here, check this,

1. No IPv6 DNS is assigned by ONU to mobile, so how will the DNS query resolve requests ? Hence, no internet.

2. The IPv6 DNS in computers is fe80::%14 which is the ONU link local address, and that also does resolve DNS request somehow.

3. This ONU now automatically restarts randomly for now reason at random backoff times, daily 20-25 restart(s) are guaranteed.

So, is this now a ISP issue?

I think TP-Link should immediately fix this issue, I paid for this ONU and now it is not usable with IPv6.

I think TP-Link support should improve their service. If they cannot provide support just leave us with unlocked firmware for us to install openwrt.

Looking forward towards tp link for a fix in next firmware and also looking forward to escalate this issue through proper channels and PGRMS.

DHCPv6 is not supported by portable devices like Android, iOS, Tablets, etc. So, using DHCPv6 doesn't allocate IPv6 IPs not even link local IPs to my devices except computers. DHCPv6 is for enterprise systems. It is the ONU and firmware itself. In LAN there is option to set IPv4 DNS, but there is not option to set IPv6 DNS. So, computers picks up the assigned IPv4 DNSs, but for IPv6 DNS all computers picks up the ONU link local IPv6 as its DNS server, a typical behavior of all routers if no DNS server is set by default. But I have also seen if no DNS servers are set then devices should pick up the DNS servers set up in the interface, in case of IPv4. This is not happening in IPv6 DNSs. Hence, no internet in mobile devices. In next firmware they TP-Link should add the feature to set the IPv6 DNSs in LAN and also add the ability to announce them explicitly when a device is connecting to it.

This firmware is non-downgradeable, I've tried a lot to decode the GPL source code also to compile a custom firmware myself, but no.

But the auto reboot issue (at 10mins to 1hr interval), I don't know what is it. Along with that now all the ethernet connections disconnects exactly after 25mins and then reconnects back after 2mins, from today morning this is happening along with all these. This is with all the ethernet connections. TP-Link has to fix this ASAP, since I have internet only via IPv6 now, and my ISP will turn on IPv4 soon but not sure when.
Tag any TP-Link engineers here if possible.

This is in my desktop.

This is in my mobile.

It is like the firmware update might have messed with IPv6 handling on mobile devices. Have you tried setting up a custom DNS like  Cookout Restuarant Google’s (2001:4860:4860::8888) to see if that helps with resolution.

There was no option to set a custom IPv6 in this ONU in any firmware versions. I had checked 1.8.0, no IPv6 DNS setting options, same 1.10, same 1.13

Check the above photos.
