Model: Archer BE800
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.6 Build 20240808 rel.26673(4153)

I have a Plex Server on my BE800 LAN, which I access from outside using IPv6. My IPv6 settings are

WAN : PPPoE/Auto
LAN : SLAAC+Stateless DHCP

Now, the problem is, I need to explicitly allow inbound rules to let my mobile devices access the Plex Server using its IPv6. The other part to the problem is, the IPv6 for the Plex server seems to be changing (I am not sure why it changes, rebooting the NAS and the router did not change it) over a few days. Consequently, the rule becomes invalid and needs to be updated.

 Questions :

  1. Short of static IPv6 assignment on my NAS, is there a way to ensure that the NAS's IPv6 never changes?
  2. Is there a way to use wildcards in the firewall rule to allow inbound connections for the entire subnet, thus making Plex work even if the server IP changes?

Hi  @slyronit,

For your first question, if you want to fix the IP for Plex, we need to add a new address reservation function for IPv6. This function has been included in our plan, and we hope to implement it in future firmware updates.
For the second question, the stability of IPv6 firewall rules, we have also fed back to the technicians, hoping to consider changing the Internal IP to the device Mac, and this change may also be implemented in future firmware updates.

Hi @slyronit,

For your issue, the reply is as follows:
1. The PD (Prefix Delegation) on the ISP side may change, which will cause the entire IPv6 address obtained by the backend to change. Please confirm with the ISP whether the PD can be fixed. If not, please bind the IPv6 of the Plex server to the DDNS.

2. Regarding the improvement of IPv6 firewall rules, we will plan to improve it to bind Mac instead of IP in the future.

  @Joseph-TP hello.

1. The prefix changing is not a problem for Plex. Plex can automatically bind to the new IPv6

2. I see no option to use the firewall rule with mac, at least on the BE800. Can you explain to me how I can do that?
