RE450 and WIFI channels

Hi all,
I am running Archer C6 and RE450. RE450 is connected to C6 over WIFI. There are both 2.4GHz and 5 GHz WIFI networks.
The source networks (C6 obviously) are running in channel 1 and 36, respectively. All the (4, in total) networks have the same SSID and the same security features.
Now, all the information about running multiple WIFIs with the same SSID suggest to run them on separate channels, to prevent interference. It seems reasonable. However, RE450 does not allow to pick the channel, so it broadcasts its networks on channels 1 and 36 as well, just like the channels of the source networks (from C6). It is not a OneMesh device too.
Is there an fw update planned? How to improve that? Logic suggests that the WIFI networks from the extender should broadcast on a far, unoccupied channel, rather than cause interference with the source router.
Has anybody succeeded in changing the broadcast channel on RE450 in any way?
