This was a nightmare, but finally resolved based on MANY variations and experiements.

(support just pasted in set up paragraphs as a reply)

latest everything, new deco units Jan 2025.   Android app, latest android, etc.   Seemingly no way to display app version (but it was JUST installed)

(an aside:  it is so impractical to have to use an app instead of web-based management - one has to re type everything)

The problem was I could not DEFINE a port forward.  It gave one of two errors:

  • SAVE -  failed   (no information at all -  a horrible error message... much like "something went wrong" messages where the software engrs were too lazy to specify...)
  • IP address already in use    (yes, it's the IP of the client i'm trying to forward to)  (but if you CHOSE FROM THEIR LIST of IP addresses/clients, it would just "fail" )

In the end, i had to:

  • turn off/disconnect(from the network) the client
  • delete offline client IP (from a list/cache - listed after "clients online"
  • delete an address reservation that was somehow made due to one of my port-forwarding save attempts
  • only then would it accept the new rule, and it worked thereafter.

I don't understand why (and support would not answer) the app balked at an IP address that was the listener - it MUST exist in order to have something to FORWARD TO...
