Archer AC5400 does not resolve local Hostnames

My problem with the Archer C5400 is, that I cannot resolve local hostnames anymore in my local network. ping hostname fails from any connected device (Mac or Android), but ping ip-address works fine. What settings are important to resolve local hostnames? From the router itself it works in the web gui diagnostics.
