Forwarding Magic packets to broadcast ip for wake on Lan

I'm having trouble setting up a virtual server that forwards magic packets to my entire network.
My subnet is 255.255.255.0 and my ip is 192.168.1.1 so this would make my ip range from 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.254 with 192.168.1.255 being the broadcast ip. The problem is that when I forward the packets received from port 7 (my WOL port) to the broadcast ip. I get an error stating that 192.168.1.255 is not a valid IP.
I have tried another subnet 255.255.255.128 with the broadcast IP being 192.168.1.127, which is accepted. But my computer does not wake up.
So i am utterly confused right now as to what i'm supposed to be doing. My router lacks an arp binding feature which would solve this mess, so i'm stuck with having to broadcast the packets to every computer in the network.
