Hello,

Currently considering a BE25 mesh network for my new place, and can't find information on wether what I'd assume would be the best topology is possible to achieve with BE25, and if so, how.

I have RJ45 outlets in every rooms (say rooms 1, 2, 3, 4). All these are wired in a "network room" consisting of the main router (French ISP, Livebox, can't do without it unfortunately).

I have a couple computers in room 3 (which has 2 ethernets plugs) for which I want a wired connection.

I would like to put one BE25 in room 3 and one in room 1, both connected by wire to the main router, while still keeping the mesh functionnality (only one wireless network) and be able to use the second ethernet port of the BE 25 to connect a device (computer, TV)

Here would be a map :

Sorry if dumb question, it seems a basic usecase to me but couldn't really be sure while looking at those FAQs :

Thanks for your help.

Hi, welcome to the community.

Access point mode is a recommended working mode for your network topology.

The house was reserved with multiple Ethernet ports and it was very likely to be hidden dispatch Ethernet hubs in the wall to handle all the wires to different rooms.

So the current network layout is quite like this one:

Wait for your reply and best regards.

  @David-TP

Thanks for your answer.

Regarding the hidden dispatch Ethernet hubs, I'm pretty sure there aren't any (the wiring has just been done and I've seen the wires, it's a "small" apartment). Unless the female plugs act like that ?

The reason I'm not confident with the Access point mode is that I currently have an Archer AX58 in a similar setup (but not the same place), and I couldn't configure it in Access point mode to have both wifi and ethernet work. The configuration explicitely says : "In this mode, the router changes an existing wired (Ethernet) network into a wireless one.", whereas for router mode it says : "In this mode, the router can provide internet access for multiple wired and wireless devices. This mode is required most commonly."

Will the AP mode of Deco work differently ? If so, it seems to be ok for my usecase.

Hi, You can take this layout for example:

If there is only one Ethernet connection from the Livebox, from the main internet-in Ethernet connection to 4x internet-out wall Ethernet jacks, there must be dispatch devices. It might not look like a network hub or switch, or refer to only one equipment.

(And if there were 4 Ethernet connections directly out from the main router, the router itself works as a dispatch switch and expands the Ethernet connections)

Due to the complexity of various Ethernet dispatch structures, Access Point mode is the most recommended mode for Deco to avoid potential incorrect wired connection.

" In AP mode, it changes an existing wired (Ethernet) network into a wireless one." whereas for router mode it says: "In this mode, the router can provide internet access for multiple wired and wireless devices. This mode is required most commonly."

---It is not quite accurate. Apart from the wireless network, its Ethernet ports in AP mode could be used for multiple wired devices, just as in wireless router mode.

The main difference between "Wireless router" and "Access Point" modes would be, that the NAT and DHCP features are disabled in AP mode so all the local devices will only get IP addresses from the ISP router. While in router mode, Deco/Archer routers will start assigning IP addresses to their connected devices.

Furthermore, Archer AX58 supports EasyMesh. Ethernet Backhaul over EasyMesh requires Archer routers in default wireless router mode. But Deco Mesh doesn't have this limitation and it works in both wireless router and Access Point mode.
