Model: TL-WPA8631P KIT
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 20230825 Rel.53750

Hi Guys,

I recently had to replace my TL-WPA8631 kit under warranty as a recent firmware update caused connectivity issues. I received V4 of the same model. Nothing else has changed - I am using the same power outlets, same devices connected, basically exactly the same configuration.

The tpplc app indicates the Powerline rate between the 2 TPLink devices is around 280Mbps. I don't know what the rate was with the old devices.

My internet speed is around 55Mbps.

The problem I have is that with the V4 devices when I run an internet speed test with speedtest.net the result is between 30 and 36Mbps. If I run a speed test connected directly to the modem I get that 55Mbps. My OLD V2 devices gave me the same speed test result as I get when connected directly to my modem (around that 55Mbps mark). This is the case with both Ethernet and Wifi.

So to summerise, My old V2 devices gave me a faster connection than the new V4's. Can anyone please advise me on what I can do to resolve this issue? I wonder if there might be a firmware update in the works that could resolve the issue?

Thanks!

Nick.

Hi, welcome to our community.

You may refer to this guide to troubleshoot:

What should I do if internet connection is slow when the device is connected to TP-Link Powerline Adapters?

Thank you and best regards.

I understand that basic troubleshooting steps are fundamental to the process of finding a fault, however your response is generic and poor. I'll try to explain the situation a little more clearly.

1. I was using WPA8631 V2 and the powerline rate was greater than my internet speed - So any devices connected to the WPA8631, connected to the internet at the same rate devices connected directly to my router did.

2. I replaced the V2 under warranty - I purchased a new WPA8631 Kit that is V4 so I had no downtime whilst my faulty devices were sent for warranty

3. I disconnected my V2 from the power outlets and immediately installed the new V4 - There were NO other changes made. NO new house wiring done, NO additional devices installed, NO additional appliances connected to power outlets.

4. The powerline rate of the new V4 is considerably lower than the old V2 - This is not a wiring issue, nor an interference issue - It is a device issue.

I have sold numerous WPA8631 kits to clients. If I cant get the issue resolved. I will not be using TP-Link devices again, for myself, or my clients.

Thanks for your help.

Nick.
