Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.6 Build 20240619 rel.72016

Hi,

I've recently purchased a brand new TL-WPA8631P KIT and plugged it to my (one year old) Archer AX72 router.

The router is configured to work on "Wireless router mode" and I have easy mesh configured and functional.

The thing is that there are occasional disconnects (at random time) around once / twice a day that require me to reboot the Archer router. The reboot is fixing the issue.

This behavior is pretty much consistent as long as the AV1300 is part of the network while disappear when I disconnect it - tested few time already during the last month.

I've checked the router logs and there is no disconnection related info there and I only see the reboot logs.

-- Edit --

I've also noticed that when trying to access the router management application (192.168.0.1), it is partially loading i.e. it seems like the static resources are loaded with the http get while all the http post requests are getting a 500 error code and failing (added the har file for referance).

It seems from the above that some part of the archer application is crashed and I can't find a way to access it during this time or find any relevant logs.

Please advice what could be the issue and how would I be able to troubleshoot?

Any help would be appriciated...

Hi  @_sOlOs_,

If you are experiencing an unstable internet connection on your TP-Link powerline devices, or the Powerline LED frequently turns off, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
    1. For wired powerline adapters, check if Power Saving Mode is enabled. You can disable it using the tpPLC utility. Refer to this FAQ for detailed instructions: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2018/
    2. Move the powerline extender closer to the router and the powerline adapter. Placing them in the same room for testing.
    3. Test the internet connection by connecting your client devices directly to the main router. This will help determine if the issue is specific to the powerline connection or if it's a problem with the router itself.
    4. If the problem seems to be isolated to a specific client device, try connecting that device to a different network to see if the issue persists. Additionally, you can try using different Ethernet cables or ports for wired client devices to rule out any potential cable or port issues.

Hi @Joseph-TP,

Thank you for your reply, it is much appreciated!

Please note that the disconnects are occurring between my Archer router and the internet, not from the powerline, which has a strong signal.

I have reasons to believe (as described in the edit section of the original post) that these disconnects are actually crashes happening on the Archer router and are somehow caused by the powerline kit.

When the internet disconnects from the Archer router, I still have an internet connection if I connect a device directly instead of using the router, so this is not an issue with the ISP.

The cause of these disconnects is definitely the powerline kit, which causes them on a daily basis. Disconnecting the kit from my network makes the problem disappear.

All my attempts to connect to the Archer’s management application when it disconnects from the internet have failed, as also described in the edit section of the original post.

I’m looking for a way to troubleshoot the issue and check logs that might provide insight into what is happening with the Archer’s firmware. Are there any available logs on the Archer disk that are not exposed in the management application? Is there any way to SSH into the router when this happens?

Is there any additional information I could provide here or to TP-Link to help resolve the issue?

I’m really frustrated with this situation, as I keep disconnecting from the internet during meetings. I have to unplug the powerline kit during working hours, which completely defeats the purpose of having better Wi-Fi coverage in dead zones of the house, making the product effectively useless in my case.

HI  @_sOlOs_,

May I know if your network topology diagram is as follows:

Fiber—router—powerline adapter )))((( client devices

(Note: — stands for wired connection,)))((( stands for wireless connection )

There are a few different cases related with unstable connection, including WAN connection unstable and wireless client devices unstable.
For WAN connection unstable (Router Internet LED turns red/orange occasionally):
    1) Connect a PC directly into your modem to verify if your ISP Internet is stable.
    2) Make sure the Ethernet cable between your modem and the Router is connected properly, replaced old cables with new ones.
    3) Change the DNS Server of the Router, login the web management interface of the Router, go to Advanced > Network > Internet > Advanced Settings, change the two DNS Servers into 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8How to Change the DNS servers on the wireless router and DSL modem router (New UI)?
    4) Go to Advanced > System > Firmware Update to upgrade the firmware of the Router. How to Upgrade the Firmware on the TP-Link Wi-Fi Routers?
For wireless client devices unstable:
    1) Make sure the Router is properly placed, it should be put in open area instead of inside a cabinet or shelf.
    2) Login the web management interface of the Router, go to Advanced > Wireless > Wireless Settings, change the wireless channel into another one.
    3) For 2.4GHz wireless client devices, adjust 2.4GHz channel width into 20MHz, for 5G wireless client devices, adjust 5GHz channel width into 80MHz or 40MHz to avoid interference.

Hi  @Joseph-TP

The topology is exactly as you described, and the issue is with the WAN connection - the router’s internet LED either turns red or goes off completely.

I haven’t been able to determine the exact conditions that cause the light to turn red versus when it turns off.

Unfortunately, none of the suggested actions have resolved the issue.

I tested the modem by connecting a PC directly to it, and the internet connection was stable, so this is not an ISP-related issue.

It’s important to emphasize that this issue only occurs when the power adapter is connected to the router and happens once or twice a day. However, when I disconnect the power adapter, the connection remains stable for weeks, as I have already tested.

Based on this, it seems quite clear that the issue is related to the router / power adapter rather than an ISP problem.

Are there any available logs on the Archer disk that are not exposed in the management application? Is there any way to SSH into the router when this happens?

Is there any additional information I could provide here or to TP-Link to help resolve the issue?

Hi  @_sOlOs_,

Do you mean that if the powerline adapter is removed, the router's network will work stably? If yes, please try different LAN ports and wall sockets for powerline system.

If the issue persists, it is recommended that you can contact local support for further help.
