TL-WPA8631p - "The current host router does not support OneMesh" - Archer VR400 v3
I have a mixed powerline and range extender setup in my home and, despite factory reset on the whole setup followed by one-by-one attempts at adding them all in a variety of of orders, I am unable to add my two TL-WPA8631 units to OneMesh. They do not recognise that the VR400 v3 supports OneMesh, even though the VR400 v3 shows them as available OneMesh devices to be added.
The 8631 units are: TL-WPA8631p Kit v3 with firmware 3.0.1 Build 20220330 Rel.52768
The router is: Archer VR400 v3 with firmware 1.5.0 0.9.1 v00a1.0 Build 220321 Rel.60385n
Both are the latest firmware available and both are widely advertised as OneMesh compatible devices.
This is making me regret going with an all TP-Link setup "to avoid problems"!
Any and all help will be appreciated, please!
Thanks,
Ted

Let’s try the following steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:1. Ensure that the OneMesh mode is enabled on both the VR400 and TL-WPA8631 units.
VR400 - Yes.
2. After a factory reset, pair one TL-WPA8631 unit with the VR400 at a time. This can help isolate if one of the units might have a syncing issue.
3. Poor powerline signal quality can interfere with OneMesh setup. Use the TP-Link Powerline Utility to check the link rate between the units. If the link rate is low, try plugging the units into outlets on the same electrical circuit temporarily to complete the pairing.
4. After pairing, reboot the VR400 and then the WPA8631 units to ensure the changes take effect.
5. If the devices still don’t connect to OneMesh automatically, try adding them manually. On the VR400 web interface, navigate to Advanced > OneMesh > Add Devices. Check if the TL-WPA8631 units appear in the list and add them from there.
If the steps above don’t resolve the issue, could you let us know the following?1. Are the TL-WPA8631 units able to connect to the VR400 for standard internet access (without OneMesh)?
2. Do you see any error messages during the pairing process?
Only the “Error code 1” pop-up message shown below.
3. Have you tried the TP-Link Tether app to manage OneMesh setup?
We look forward to hearing back from you.
