Archer AX72/AX5400 and Deco M4 not connecting at 1Gbps
Hello.
I set up a mesh network with AX72 wired to a Deco E4 as the main unit. The rest of the units were also E4. It worked at 100MBPS as expected. I changed the main unit to Deco M4 but the connection speed between the M4 and the AX72 did not increase above 100Mbps. The rest of the E4 units are now connected to the M4 but also capped at 100Mbps. I upgraded the Deco units to the latest firmware but that did not help.
The router AX72 supports gigabit speed at LAN ports. So is the Deco M4. I expect the M4 and E4 units to run above 100mbps as these are both capable running at this rate as long as the main unit is the M4.
I used the LAN cable to connect the router to a PC and it negotiated at 1Gbps. The cable and the routers are fine. The cable is only 2 meters long.
Any idea why the connection is stuck at 100Mbps? Thank you.

Test with another ethernet cable between the AX72 and Deco M4 where your bottleneck is. They should auto-negotiate at 1000 mbps (Troubleshooting details).

@terziyski Thanks. I will give it a try. I will also make a shorter, CAT6 shielded cable. What threw me off was the router negotiating well with the PC at 1G but not with the Deco. I will update with the results ASAP

I don't have cat 6 but I quickly cut my cat5E to a foot long and crimped a new RJ45 connector - no joy.
I will find a cat 6 cable. I have the cat6 connectors but no cable yet. Wish me luck.

Cat5E will suffice - just make sure the cable is well (factory) made and is of a good quality. You should have such cable in the AX72 kit.
Which is the FW release of your Deco M4 after the FW update ?

The cable I am using for LAN was supplied with my providers' router, a Sagemcom unit and is a CAT5E. I replaced it with AX72. The one that came with the AX72 is also a CAT5E, on WAN port.
NOTES:
- My WAN speed is 1GB. This is what I am paying for and it it working just fine.
- ALL deco units are brand new (M4 = 24 hours old, E4 = 1 week)
Here are the steps I have taken so far:
- I connected the router LAN port using a CAT5E cable to my PC and did a speed test. I got 900++Mbps. - Looks good.
- Using the same LAN cable,I connected the M4. I switched the PC connection to M4 wifi and did a speed test. I only got up to 95Mbps. The same result was observed on all satellite units.
- I swapped the cables. The one from Sagemcom was on the WAN and the cable that came with the AX72 on the LAN. I executed the same tests - exactly the same results. Unable to go reach 100Mbps on M4.
- Based on the tests, the CTA5E cables are OK.
- I bought 2 x 1 meter BRANDED CAT6A cables and replaced both WAN and LAN CAT5E with CTA6A cables. With PC wired to router, I got 900+Mbps. A quick speed test while connected the M4 gave only 129Mbps and it slowly dropped to 95Mbps where it remained.
- I powered down everything and tried again - exactly the same results.
- I reset all Deco units and set them up again - exactly the same results
There is nothing around the units that can cause interference. I also work on Tech Support (Telecom) restoring massive DWDM outages and routers and switch issues. I am sure I have done everything right. This AX72 to M4 not negotiating at higher speed is stretching my patience. :-)
Summary of my tests >> 2 possibilities - 1) there is something wrong with the M4 or 2) AX72 and M4 cannot reach the advertised speed of 1G.
Anything else I may have missed? Thank you.

Hi,
Have you determined the connection speed solely via speed measurement or have you actually looked at the negotiated link speeds shown by the AX72 router?
To do that click on the router's icon and then scoll all the way to the bottom of the page.

@woozle Thanks. I forgot to mention this. This what I see.
Lan 1 is connected to the M4,
Lan 2 to this laptop I am using now
Lan 3 is on a desktop PC
Lan 4 is on a printer
After resetting the M4, this happens then will drop to 100Mbps
I think the best way to test this is get another router or get another M4. I will take the unit to the seller on Monday to test on site or replace.
Thank you all for your inputs. I have given up. Wish me luck.

i also forgot that I have no way to properly test the throughput. So yes, speed test only to give me a ball park number.
