Failed to save the information message on X50 Outdoor when trying to change connection preference

I've just added an X50 Outoor to my existing P9 network. Although it is connected to the network, the signal is weak, I believe, because it is connecting to the main P9 unit, which is upstairs and the furthest away from where the X50 unit is placed outside.
When I go onto the Deco app and select the X50, I see there is an option to change Connection Preference from Auto to one of the other Deco units, but every time I try and save my changes, I get the message "Failed to save the information. Please try again later."
No matter how many times I go back and retry, it will not let me save/change the connection preference. I see numerous other people in this forum with the same message, but no answer seems to be available on how to get around it.
I have tried to update the firmware, but the Deco App refuses to download the update, stopping at 50%. Via a web browser, I have installed it manually, but it doesn't seem to take effect, even after multiple reboots.
I have tried to remove the X50 from the network and re-add it, but still no difference.
Can someone from Deco please advise how to manually set which Deco P9 unit the X50 connects to so I can get a stronger signal? And is there another way I can update the firmware?
