Model: TL-MR6400
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.3.0 0.9.1 v0001.0 Build 201207 Rel.56223n

My Network Provider in the UK (EE) will not allow any data connections which start outside the network. This means that the OpenVPN solution will not work as external clients cannot make the incoming connection.

Is there a way to make the router act as a VPN client, so that it makes the initial connection request?

As an interim solution I have placed a Raspberry Pi inside my router network with the OpenVPN client software installed. This works well and connects to my VPN server, but I would prefer the router to act as the client if at all possible.

@lankylad Is there any other forum where I can get some help?

@lankylad

The TL-MR6400's stock firmware doesn't offer a VPN Client feature. (just like most of TP-Link's home routers)

You could try your luck with third-party firmware like OpenWrt, but be warned that setting it up could be cumbersome and since this router apparently only has 8 MB of flash storage you might not be able to install all the add-on packages you'd like to have.

@woozle Thanks. I guess I'll need to stick to my Raspberry Pi solution
