W8980 dropping wireless connection

Region : Ireland
Model : TD-W8980
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : 0.6.0 0.6 v000 build 130303 rel. 38108n
ISP : Eircom
Bought this adsl router on Friday and since then I have been experiencing random frequent wireless dropouts, router appears to reboot at this point too, Internet drops out too. Wireless drops as I hear the beep from my airplay speaker reconnecting. Any one have these issues too, tired changing channels, then back to auto again, still no joy. Any ideas.

update:
i finally got some stability from the modem router,
inorder to achieve this, i had to disable the 5ghz band and use only the 2.4ghz band. seems stupid to have a dualband router that only works with stability when using only the 2.4ghz band.
with both bands active i get random router reboots, numerous times per day but with the 5ghz band disabled its been going for almost 2 days without hicup.
I tried new firmware, fixed wireless channels etc but nothing worked untill i disabled one of the bands.
im not best pleased tbh, i paid alot of money for this router to have both 5ghz and 2.4 ghz band, i even updated the wireless adapters for laptop and Pc to take advantage and now its for nothing...
this is very poor from TP Link, not at all happy :-(

I am experiencing the same issue with the latest firmware... It starts randomly after a few hours to a couple of days! Clients already attached to 5Ghz run really slow, those on 2.4Ghz appear unaffected... Also can't add any new clients to either 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz, rebooting the router resolves all issues until it falls over again! The unit also gets quite hot if left in this condition for a while... It's almost like its stuck in some kind of internal loop...

Wifi freeze
2013-06-25 06:41:37
Interesting thread..
I picked up a tp 8980 to replace my old netgear dg834
Set up went ok, and everyone in the house where fine, but only after 1 day we noticed that the wifi froze.. Tried going aeroplane mode on the mobile devices to reset the ip address, but no joy, even did a ipconfig renew on the desktops, and still no joy ( wifi is show as connected but no access, even trying to access the admin console from a wifi device)
Only way to recover the wifi is to disable the wifi with the wifi button on the back of the router, then enable it again.. Hey presto.. Can get back into the router and internet.(or reboot the router)
Looking at the firmware levels it seems I have
Device Information
Firmware Version:0.6.0 0.6 v000e.0 Build 130305 Rel.74370n
Hardware Version:TD-W8980 v1 00000000
System up time:0 day(s) 12:26:27
Which seems to be a newer version that I can download?
Not sure I like the idea of disabling the Dual band.. That was the selling point, but will try and if so.. Will be sending back for a refund...
Have two devices hard wired,, tv and Xbox, and the rest are all wireless.. About 6 devices..
I thought the main pc had a weak signal issue so I added another wireless dongle to it to improve the wifi reception.. but maybe not now.

Hi..this may be a double post, not sure where my original went..
Anyhow.. I picked up a 8980 the other day to replace my dg834 netgear.. All seemed ok, but have noticed the wifi going into freeze mode... Only solution is to turn off the wifi with the button on the back, then back on again.. This kicks it back to life... Not very good in my opion..
Will try the dual band fix, but that was the selling point, so may send it back if that is the issue..
Tech spec..

Hi. Mike.
Have you tried to change the security type of your wireless network on the modem? If you have tried that, which security option can make it better?
What are the model numbers of wireless devices connected to the modem?
BTW, you can also change the channel width to 20 MHz for a try.

HI..
thanks for the reply.. still haveing Wifi Dropouts..
I have a couple of Wifi PC's a few Itouch/Ipads connecting through wireless, i have the TV, Printer and Xbox hard wired..
I disabled the 5ghz wifi, and unfortunately the wifi still freezes.. the signal is still being received and the devices are connected, but no data is being sent through, and you cannot acess the admin via wifi, and you have to switch wifi of and on at the back of router.. and it comes straight back up.. a bit annoying.
I'll look at the the security settings, any recommendations? and i'll look at the bandwidth also and report back..
( while the wifi drops out - the hardwired keeps working - such as iplayer on the tv still streams )
regards

Hi..
the 20mhz bandwidth setting made no difference I'm afraid..
At the moment I've re enabled both 2 & 5, and just running the iPad on 5 with the set options and see if only 2 drops.. ( auto not set on 5 )

Hi, Mike.
Maybe it is the hardware issue. This causes you quite a lot of trouble, if your modem is still under warranty, I think you can contact with the shop where you buy it from and ask for a replacement.
