I have bought the E3276 LTE Modem and was wondering when can we expect a firmware upgrade for the MR-3420 ver.2 and/or bin file to support this modem? Both devices are quite expensive in SA and I do not want to replace either of the devices.

It'll almost certainly brick your V2 ... so DON'T.

Once the OpenWRT project back-room boys release their package for the V2 (very soon we hope); we'll be able to release our custom Firmware for the V2.

BTW the custom software now has a name ... 'Redback'

Keep an eye on the website HERE. The documentation will shortly receive a re-vamp, whilst we take a pause in new developments.

The Project WIKI is HERE.

Hi,

Good news.

We now have a BlackWidow release that fully supports the MR3420 V2 and the ZTE MF821D, Huawei E3276 and other late model USB modems.

Follow the links from the Whirlpool WIKI.

A couple of words of warning for users with the E3276 (and possibly other late model 3G/ 4G modems), that we have found along the way:

1. The E3276 may under some conditions (generally low signal levels), draw more power than the router can provide. This may lead to unstable performance and connection. The solution is a USB Y - Cable and an additional USB 5v supply.

2. The E3276 may under certain conditions require a USB cable with ferrite bead 'interference isolation' to ensure stable operation.

Cheers

John k

PS Please report back with your performance results and please drop into the BlackWidow support thread HERE as there are many exciting developments on the way. We know there are many downloads of this software from all over the world, so we would love to hear the feed-back.

New firmware that works with E3276
2013-04-18 15:23:50
Hi There, i received an email from TP link that is still in beta. The firmware worked with a 4G Optus Prepaid E3276 usb modem. The problem i have is that when its not reliable. Turn it on, it works once connected, disconnect power and try again.... wont work, disconnect try again....wont work again, then after another on/off its working.

I am going to be installing this unit in a difficult to get to area (on a pole connected to a camera) The last thing i want it to have to get up there every time it dosent connect. Am i doing something wrong? Could it be a power issue? Ive ordered the Y cable but will take a couple of days to get here. Thanks for this thread and the whirlpool ones.

Yes try the Y cable or a USB extension cable with a ferrite bead.

Unstable operation of the E3276 in a router appears to be a Hallmark of this device; more so in poorer reception areas.

Can you make the Beta firmware available for download? I presume this is for the MR3420 V2?
