Model: Deco PX50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.3 Build 20240724

Hello,

I run 2x PX50 with a XE50-PoE for a mesh network.

The mesh network works fine except for the speeds of the main PX50 Deco plugged to the router.

I am in UK with EE (part of BT) on a medium Fibre broadband.

The advertised speeds are 65.5Mb/s - 72.8Mb/s download and 16.4Mb/s - 18.2Mb/s upload.

When running speed tests on the original router through ethernet, the download speed runs around 74Mb/s, upload 18Mb/s, so quite good.

When I run the same tests on the PX50 itself plugged to the main router through ethernet I get 34/42Mb/s downlaod speeds, 12/14Mb/s upload speeds.

I am connected through ethernet again to the PX50, so how come I get such a loss?

The cable linking the PX50 to the supplier router is not the issue, I get exactly the same good results from the original router when tested through it.

And the WiFi speeds I get from the PX50 are very similar to the reduced speeds of the ethernet conencted ones.

I am loosing almost 50% of my speeds, quite a lot.

Can anybody advise maybe on a specific setting I might be doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help.

N.

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.

Have you tried to set Deco PX50 into Access Point mode to test the speed again?

How to set up Deco to work in Access Point mode

Best regards.

Hi David,

I saw this feature indeed, but certain functions are limited, so did hesitate at first.

I just switched to Access point mode and it seems to do the trick.

Just hope it's not just because of the reboot, fingers' crossed!

Thank you for your help,

N.

David,

Another question, is port forwarding not available in Access point mode?

I have a Synology server I need to access from abroad and it just warned me that teh port forwarding was no longer available.

Let me know.

Otherwise I might have to try to do it directly on the provider's modem/router

Thank you,

Nicolas.

Hi David,

Not only loosing port forwarding doesn't allow me to reach the server but I also loose access to my movies with DS Video, both dealbreakers.

I had to revert to the Wi-Fi router mode, and back to half the speed I'm supposed to get, really frustrating.

Why does this mode geopardise so much the available speed?!

Anybody else might have a solution?

Thanks.

N

Hi, Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Double NAT sometimes affects the network speed.

Double NAT

What is double NAT and why is it bad?

Fix Double NAT when two routers run at the same time

Deco PX50 doesn't support port forwarding in AP mode but there is no need to open ports on Deco for Synology server when it is in AP mode since Deco NAT has been disabled already. If you need to open ports for the local servers, port forwarding on the EE router would be enough.

Best regards.
