Deco M4 V2 firmware 1.6.0
To Whom It May Concern,
Any update on the availability date of the 1.6.0 firmware version for the M4 V2, that includes functionality of the latest recently released firmware update for V4 ? Or as an alternative option for me to consider, where and how can I purchase a V4 version of the M4, considering that I am living in The Netherlands?
Thanks,
Jaap Houtman

Good news, there's a firmware 1.7.0 beta test available for the v2 version of the M4, with among others support for customizing satellite Deco signal source and client connection preferences! So it is possible that version 1.6 will be skipped altogether.
See also the discussion here. I've installed it today and so far itworks pretty well.
Edit: Unfortunately my WiFi network is much less stable after the update. I described my problems on the page announcing the beta release.

Hi, Deco M4 v2 is planned to release the same firmware as well. So far it's being slowly rolled out.
If you could purchase it from a local store, the hardware version is marked on the label, such as:
And some features of 1.6.x follow the main Deco which means it does not require all the Mesh nodes have updated to 1.6.x. So may I know which feature on the 1.6.x platform is necessary, maybe a single Deco M5/M9 plus/Deco X50 could be helpful.
Thank you very much.
Best regards.

Is there any estimate for when it might come out? Even a rough idea would be better than nothing, like is it coming out in a few weeks or a few months or even longer?

Dear David,
Thank you for your reply.
“So far it's being slowly rolled out.” gives me the impression that 1.6.0. for the M4 V2 is GA and that there is a “roll out” schedule available, with “The Netherlands” and other countries on an “roll out” list that also include dates.
In The Netherlands none of the TP-Link distributors has a hardware version V4 of the M4 in stock that can be purchased, only a V2 and a V1.
Thanks,

The feature to manually select which Deco should be connected to which would work using your suggestion?
I bought the M4 Deco V2 because of the advertised features of staying connected anywhere, with high speed I decided to buy it. BUT my main Deco is far from the last Deco (the terrain of my house is very long) so It doesn't matter how many Decos I purchase as the one on the other side of the house always connects to the main with Poor to Fair (on lucky days), so I am very dissatisfied with the M4. The minimum TP-Link could do is a rough estimation of 1.6.0 date release, end of 2023? Beginning of 2024?

@JaapHoutman There's no ETA on the firmware... could be next month, could be next year

@ImtiazAli For the X20, "available" in five hardware versions, the firmware update policy is even worse. Only for V4 the following update and new functionality is available. In The Netherlands only V3 is available for purchasing.

@JaapHoutman I understand... there are so many hardware versions of each Deco models, but the inconsistency & availabilty of them is terrible

Hello, @David-TP any ETA for this? I recently bought Deco M4 V2 and I am having lots of problems with a specific device which switches connection to a slower-longest distance deco. Connection Preference is not available for V2 yet. Here all sellers still sell V1,V2. When I asked, through telephone, local tplink support about the differences between V2 and V4, I was not informed about this, just some power input differences. If you dont want to support older hardware versions, why don't you recall them and forbid selling them?

The same is the case with the different hardware versions of the X20 and X50, for example. In addition, it is completely unclear which hardware versions of a model support which functionality. Due to this lack of clarity, I will not purchase Deco equipment for the time being, simply because it is unclear what functionality I am actually purchasing and how maintenance is arranged.

Hi, I'm getting the same issue which is super frustrated, it make me regret to get Deco as it doesn't solve my problem at all.
I got 2 unit of M4, but alllll my client was connected to Main deco instead of the one closer to them. And it stuck with it even the connectivity was so bad.
Please release this feature or even better, tune the hardware version SMARTER
