MR6400 4G Slowdown Over the Course of a Day
Hi,
I am getting great speeds of around 65Mb d/l and 10-15Mb u/l but every morning that is reduced to around 20-25Mb download (upload stays roughly the same).
A reboot of the router and the speed is back to normal high levels.
Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this?
Many thanks
Mat

Hi, did both the Ethernet connection and wireless connection have the same unstable speed issue?
Have you checked the LTE band status when the speed slows down every morning and is it the same as when the speed is normal?
Thank you very much.

This is on Ethernet, so wireless is not coming into the equation. I haven't checked the band information as I put the router into an auto reboot at 5am so today it is great. Will check the band info now, disable the reboot and check again in the morning and report back.

Hi, after disabling the auto reboot yesterday... same thing this morning... around 60Mb most of the day yesterday and now 16Mb this morning.
Here are the details from the router:
Yesterday ~60Mb
Band: 7
Sig Strength: 75%
RSRP: -108dBm
RSPQ: -9dB
SNR: 15.8dB
This Morning ~16Mb
Band: 20
Sig Strength: 75%
RSRP: -94dBm
RSPQ: -11dB
SNR: 9.8dB
This Morning After Reboot
Band: 7
Sig Strength: 50%
RSRP: -109dBm
RSPQ: -10dB
SNR: 14.6dB
Thanks for taking the time to look at this for me.

Hey, your speed drop is due to the Band 20 being more crowded, slower than Band 7, in your area. The modem tries to connect the band that it sees with stronger signal but it can be a slower mast, as in your case. There is an effective solution but you will need to update your official firmware to the beta firmware provided by TP-Link. So with this beta firmware you can choose manual band selection and force the modem to connect to a certain band that suits better for you, in this case Band 7. (but you should try all available bands before deciding which to manually lock your modem onto). This beta firmware is mentioned in various threads here on this forum. Here is the direct link for it: https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202012/20201208/TL-MR6400(EU)v5_1.1.0_0.9.1_%5b201113-rel63736%5d_up_boot_all_2020-12-08_09.38.45.zip
It worked for me (and for many others) flawlessly. I tried it first, locking it to the available bands and checked the speed each time then chose the one that was the best, in my case it's Band 3.
This beta firmware works, it hasn't ever had any drop, disconnection or any failure since the firmware update. Just a side-note: I connect this modem to another router, so I don't use the wifi on the MR6400, only use it for the main purpose as a 4G modem.
