@apt I currently get 50-60Meg download and 10-20Meg upload throughout the day, which is much better than my ADSL; 12Meg download & 0.7Meg upload.  I now load-balance across the 4G+ and ADSL, which provides even more bandwidth but that is another story

I want to say that I managed to solve my issue with using an external antenna with this router.

A neighbour had a smaller TP-link 4G router (MR200 I think it was) on the shelf and I tried my external antenna and SIM-card with that one and it was working fine from start. My external antenna was well alligned.

Then when again connecting the external antenna to my MR600 router, it suddenly worked!!! I got the feeling that one of the SMA-connectors (routers antenna outlet) was a little loose, eq didn't get proper signal. Stange that I didn't get the antenna to work before, as I must have tried it like 10 times before.

Still, now that my antenna issue was resolved, the 4G connection have been solid as a rock the last months.

I got better throughput on my MR600 compared to the entry-level MR200 that I borrowed for troubleshooting. There is also much more information on antenna reception on the MR600, compare to the entry-level MR200, which is good when aligning external antenna.

I am happy with my router now that I have my external antenna is connected to it and is fully functional.

From where I live, I get download speeds between 70-90Mbit and upload maybe 30-40Mbit when I try to speedtest and similar sites.

This is fantastic compared to my old ADSL.

Sorry for not posting this earlier that my problem was resortored, but I forgot all about this post. Now that I got a notice that post was active, I feel I want to say that my issue is resolved.

I am happy with the router that I bought. I value that it support Cat6 and the better information for alignment compare to entry level routers.

I have an Archer MR600 set up on  EE 4g only and have tested it with and without an external antenna.

The signal strength seemed to stay the same @75% which i found strange, the only increase i had was in upload speed which nearly doubled from 20 to 40 (has now been limited to 20 down and 20 up)

I tried a directional antenna and an omni mimo antenna which it is still using now but the signal always reads 75% even with the standard antenna's

I believe you also need to consider the other readings that you get on your MR600 router as that will improve download and upload speeds.  This is the chart I have been using when playing with my 'Eightwood' 4G antenna:

                                              RSRP(dBM)       RSRQ(dB)     SNR(dB)    

(RF Conditions)  Excellent       >=-80                  >=-10            >=20

(RF Conditions)  Good            -80 to -90          -10 to -15      13 to 20

(RF Conditions)  Mid Cell       -90 to -100         -15 to -20       0 to 13

(RF Conditions)  Cell Edge      <=-100                <=-20            <=0

I currently get the following:    -97dBM               -8dB             18.2dB

With 4G+ using 'Band A - 20 and Band B - 1', my download speed is 70Mbps and upload speed 20Mbps.

This is connected to 3,7 and getting 39 Down and 12 up. 75% signal

My Eightwood 4G is due to arrived today so will test again.

UPDATE: My antenna arrived and its not really improved things and the speeds have reduced :(

Changed it to connect to band 3,7 and getting 4.4 Down and 0.3 up. 50% signal.

I'm not sure if its my particular router but this is the second external antenna I have used and no improvement just a reduction in speed.

@NickP Have you tried swapping over the leads at the back of the MR600 router, as that made a huge difference for me and try laying the 'Eightwood' 4G antenna flat and move it around, as that was how I got the best position for me?

@Fl1nst0ne Well played around with the position and switched the cables over and I now seem to be back to similar speeds as when I had the bunny ears attached.  Not seeing any improvement in speed which is a dissapointment.

@apt  Has your 'RSRP, RSRQ & SNR' readings improved at all?  Just keep playing and hopefully there will be a good setup for you?  It took me a few hours of playing around before I stumbled on the best setup for me.

These are my current readings. This is with 75% signal on band 3,7 (auto)

I've noticed that any changes to antenna position aren't instantanious which doesnt help so sometimes you have to wait a while for re-positioing to take effect.
