Model: Archer AX20
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.8 Build 20230830 rel.19767(4555)

Continuing the discussion that took place at:

I would like to chain a second RE605X through the existing RE605X which is working fine with the Archer AX20 v1.0 in OneMesh configuration.

I know you guys don't recommend daisy-chained extenders but I really cannot move the Archer AX20 v1.0 to the middle because it has to stay near the ONT which is tied to where the GPON link is coming in.

https://www.tp-link.com/sa/onemesh/

On this link, it says that:

Q4: How to set up a mesh network when there are more than two repeaters joining into the network?

A4: Generally we suggest connecting all the repeaters to the router for better performance. Customers can also connect one repeater to another repeater which already gets connected to the router, however we don’t recommend you to add more than two repeaters to one single link chain in consideration of the Wi-Fi quality.

Therefore, it is possible to string together two RE605X in a chain? Please help me do it. Thanks.

Hi  @Bilal_M,

You can manage it from anywhere via the Tether app, as long as it has an internet connection. To link your extender to the TP-Link cloud, follow these steps:
Method One: Using the Tether app (for Tether-compatible models).
    1. Launch the Tether app and log in using the local password you set for the extender.
    2. Go to More > Manager or Tools > TP-Link ID and follow the on-screen instructions to add an owner or manager.
Method Two: Using the web-based management page.
    1. Visit tplinkrepeater.net and log in using the local password you set for the extender.
    2. Go to Settings > TP-Link Cloud.
    3. Enter your TP-Link ID information, then click LOG IN & BIND. If you don't have a TP-Link ID, click Sign Up to create one.
Note: The TP-Link ID used to log into the extender for the first time will be automatically bound as the owner with full permissions.

Hi@Bilal_M,

The setup process for adding a second extender is the same as for the first one.

However, since RE605X and Archer AX20 have formed a onemesh network, you may see same SSIDs when selecting the host network. It is recommended that you choose the one with higher signal strength.

Hi @Joseph-TP Thanks for the reply. Yes, I saw the same SSID twice. Let me highlight that because the signal strength icon is shaped top-to-bottom with three levels only, it was not possible to distinguish which source was stronger. If you can raise a feature change request internally with the developers so that they make the signal strength icon the same as shown on most of the mobile phone in left-to-right direction where they have five levels or bars.

Anyway, as I am using the default SSID, which encodes the last 4 digits of MAC address into the SSID string, so it was easy for me to distinguish which SSID was coming from the RE605X range extender. This can be a hint for others trying to do the same.

I have one two questions now.

  1. One of the two RE605Xs doesn't display the cloud icon. What does it mean? How to enable the cloud icon on it?
  2. I was able to label or set the location string on the first RE605X but the second RE605X is shown as "Other". How to label it?

Take care
