Hi,

I'm after a bit of advice on how best to set up my Deco x55s.

I have purchased a pack of 3x Deco x55, I have FTTP Sky gigafast broadband using the Sky issued hub as my router, I have a main Sky Q box and 2x Sky mini boxes along with a PS5 connecting to the router via wireless.

I have been reading around how to best set up my Decos but it's all quite conflicting. My Sky router is plugged into the ONT and the main Deco plugged into the Sky router via ethernet. The other Deco units are connected via wireless one in the utility room at the back of the house and the other in the detached garage which has been converted into an office.

Do I need to disable the wifi on my router and turn the Deco into access point mode, if I was to do that i'm not sure my Sky Q would work then.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  @Gary390 Hi, welcome to the community.

For the Sky Q main/mini boxes, for better performance, it is usually recommended to connect each of them via Ethernet cables to the nearby Deco X50, instead of using Wi-Fi.

How to set Sky Q work with Deco?

Would that be possible for your case?

If yes, it would be better to disable the Wi-Fi on the Sky hub and set Deco into Access point mode. PS5 would be fine on Deco WiFi.

Wait for your reply and best regards.

  @David-TP Hi David,

Thanks for the advice.

It may be possible to connect the main Sky Q box via ethernet but not the mini boxes. Would this cause an issue if the main box was wired but the mini boxes not?

Would this work?

Thanks

  @Gary390

If you hard wire your main Q box to a Deco, you'll find you'll end up with double NAT. This won't be good for gaming.

I don't have minis, but I changed the router SSID by adding an extra character. That way, nothings connected to it. I found things were still connecting to the router and not the DECOs. So my main Q box is connected to a DECO (not that it shows) and just works.

Just make sure you have it in access point mode.
