Firmware Version: Latest

Hello TP-Link Support,

I’m experiencing significant stability issues with my Deco mesh system after a recent firmware update to my Deco X50. Here are the details:

Network Setup:

  • Main Deco unit: Deco X50 (currently replaced the M9 Plus as the main unit)
  • Additional units: Deco M9 Plus, Deco M5
  • Connection type: All units are connected via Ethernet backhaul to the router.
  • Internet connection: Fiber

Issue Description:
Since the firmware update for the X50, my network has become very unstable. The Deco units go offline and reconnect intermittently. This issue began immediately after the update.

Steps Already Taken:

  1. Factory reset all Deco units (X50, M9 Plus, and M5).
  2. Replaced M9 Plus with X50 as the main unit.
  3. Reconnected and reconfigured all units.
  4. Verified Ethernet cables and Ethernet backhaul connections.
  5. Checked the Deco app for firmware updates on all units. All units are up to date.

Current Behavior:
The network remains unstable, with frequent disconnections and reconnections of the Deco units. The issue persists even after trying the steps above.

Questions:

  1. Can the firmware for the X50 be rolled back to a previous stable version?
  2. Are there known compatibility issues between the X50 and the M9 Plus/M5 units?
  3. Is there a firmware update planned that will address this instability?
  4. Could you assist in troubleshooting further or suggest any other solutions?

Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Jeroen van Oekel

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.

Can I have the current firmware version of the Deco X50?

  • Connection type: All units are connected via Ethernet backhaul to the router.

- "The router" here, did you refer to the ISP-provided router or main Deco?

- Did Deco work in "Access Point mode" or "Wireless Router mode"?

- Would there be an individual network switch here for Ethernet Backhaul?

  •  The Deco units go offline and reconnect intermittently.

-Have you noticed any Deco turned red during the disconnection?

Here are some information for your reference:

  1. Can the firmware for the X50 be rolled back to a previous stable version?

-It might depend on which firmware version you have now. For more details, please refer to How to Downgrade Deco

2. Are there known compatibility issues between the X50 and the M9 Plus/M5 units?

No, there isn't.

Wait for your reply and best regards.

Thanks David,

I'm not really very knowledgable about these kinds of issues but will try to answer all your questions as best I can. I've also tried a few things last night which I will explain but unfortunately to no avail.

  • Current firmware for ther Deco X50 : 1.6.4 Build 20240718 Rel. 76925

- "The router" here, did you refer to the ISP-provided router or main Deco? - I have the modem from the ISP which is Delta in the Netherlands, it's glass fiber. I have a ther main Deco connected to the modem (obviously) and the main deco also connected to a router/swith which expands wired to all the rooms of the house, so the extended Deco's are all wired.

- Did Deco work in "Access Point mode" or "Wireless Router mode"? I believe Wireless Router mode.

- Would there be an individual network switch here for Ethernet Backhaul? I do not kn ow what this means, sorry.

  •  The Deco units go offline and reconnect intermittently.

-Have you noticed any Deco turned red during the disconnection? Sometimes but not consistantly

I've had the sytem confirguted the same since day 1 and never ever had any issues, it all started shortlet after I updated the last firmware for the X50, mind you the X50 was not the main DECO at that time.  It did not change any settings. It seemd the issues kept getting worse and worse. I decided to restet all the Deco's to factory settings, delete the networtk and start all over again. When I wanted to intall the main DECO I was given a protocol of which Deco needed to be used as ther main Deco if I was using multiple types in the network and the X50 needed to be used as ther main Deco. I set this up and it works fine, or at least seems to work fine. The problem is when I connect additional deco's. They consistantly go offline, they drop devices consistantly. I've experienced a host of issues sice reinstalling the system with the Deco X50 as main unit.

  • The extended Deco's imtermitently change from connected via WiFi to Wired and Visa versa.
  • If I do an internet speed test via the deco app it only works half of the time, sometimes it says no connection to the internet.
  • Sometimes it seems to show data or information which simply can't be correct, ie sometimes it shows my iPhona connected as Wired but that obviously cannot be the case. Sometimes it even shows my iPhone as connected via WiFi but I don't even have WiFi turned on for my phone.
  • Devices consistantly drop off and rerconnect intermitantly.

As a last hope I reset all the devices again, deleted the network and restarted everyting again, but this time I used a M9 Plus as the main unit and the extended units are all M9 Plus or M5 units. I left the X50 out of the configuration but I still have the exact same issues as described above.

It seems like there is a bug or something. I've checked the ISP provider but there are no issues according to them (the modem).

I really don't know what to do and it's really an issue, no TV, can't control many of my home devices, my alarm system or camera doorbell don't work anymore, just to name a few. I have to use my mobile hotspot to do anything.

Sincerely hope you can help. I'm desperate.

Thanks,

Jeroen

I also receved a tip to change the modus to AP instead of WiFi because apparently if you have an IP address begining with 192 then the WiFi modus doesn't work well. I made the change but I have the perception it's even less stable, definitley not better. I've changed it back to WiFi
