Just bought this router and was hoping I cound connect to a 3rd party vpn server like Surfshark instead of using the router as its own vpn server.

 

Tried updating the firmware with OpenWrt but the firmware was not accepted.

 

I don't see why it can be configured as a vpn server but not a vpn client.

 

Any advice?

TL-MR6400 supports only a VPN Server which can be seen by its specs.

  @terziyski  Any routers with client vpn to recommend? I'm using a SIM card. Thank you

TBH, I am not aware of any TP-Link 4G LTE router with a VPN client feature implemented.
