@Kevin_Z

Is WPA3 support planned for the RE505X?

I started a similar thread more than a year ago, and at the time @Solla-topee informed me that no WPA3 support was planned for range extenders at all.

As it is, the RE600X - to give but one example - supports WPA3, and this is feature is massively welcome when working with an AX router, in my case the AX11000.

Here is my previous thread intro:

Currently, the RE505X does not support WPA3, which means - for example - that when I want to connect it as an access point to a WPA3-capable router (the AX11000 in my case), I first have to degrade the router's security to WPA/WPA2. Otherwise, although the RE505X will connect on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, no device will connect to the extended 5 GHz because they all prefer the router's WPA3 encryption to the WPA2 offered by the RE505X.

WPA3 support for the RE505X would be highly welcome.

  @Maciej

Thank you for the feedback.

As far as I know there is a plan for to add WPA3 for RE505X model, while there are times that plan could be adjusted,

For the WPA3 support and compatibility, it is recommended to refer to WPA3-compatible list for the latest information. This list will update when more RE model supports WPA3.

https://www.tp-link.com/wpa3/product-list/product-list
If the model is not listed there yet, usually that means it currently does not support WPA3 yet.

If the router supports WPA3, but extender does not yet, it is recommended to use WPA2/WPA3 mixed (AES) or WPA2(AES)  instead of WPA3 only on the main router so range extender could connect to the router.

  @Solla-topee

Thank you for your answer.

I'll be waiting for further developments then.

The only way I could get the RE505X to be treated as an equal partner by clients was to degrade security on the AX11000 to WPA2 (WPA2/WPA3 mixed did not work), and this is something I was reluctant to do.
