Model: Archer C3200
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 0.9.1 0.1 v004b.0 Build 160712 Rel.55313n

i want to set my second archer c3200 as an acces point behind my first archer c3200 who is set as router.

i've seen lots of manuels and youtube movies but i still don't get it working.

this one is linked at my provider modem:

my router is set as WAN Dynamic IP

LAN ip 192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.0

dhcp is 192.168.0.100 / 192.168.0.150

gateway 192.168.0.1

This one is first linked to my desktop with cable on LAN port and all internet from the desktop is off (disconnect in settings).

i set my second c3200 as WAN Dynamic IP (tried static but was a lot of errors).

LAN ip 192.168.0.2 / 255.255.255.0

dhcp is 192.168.0.151 / 192.168.0.199 (then as set i save, then i put dhcp off en save again).

gateway 192.168.0.1

then i put de AP with cable from LAN to LAN from the router. Start but no internet connection. i can link with the new wifi but there is no internet.

please help.

greetings bart

@soundshaper213

Here's the connection you have to make between the two devices since there's no dedicated AP mode in C3200.

DHCP server of the AP device (second router) should be OFF.

AP WAN port settings doesn't matter since you use the LAN port to connect to the main router.

LAN IP address of the AP is static 192.168.0.2 and is in the same subnet as the main device LAN IP address - 192.168.0.1.

If that doesn't work when connected to the AP, try to see if you can ping the 192.168.0.1 (main router)  and 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare DNS).

With the first IP you'll check the correct connectivity to the main router, with the second IP you'll check if you have a DNS issue.

Post the results after these tests if you still don't have internet access when connected to the AP device.

@terziyski

How do I pings to the main router 192.168.0.1 and 1.1.1.1.

I'm from the Netherlands so I don't really understand how to ping.

There are two ways:

Through the router itself (embedded diagnostic feature) - here's how.

Using a computer open the command prompt and use the ping command as in this guide.

i did it with desktop connected to wifi from the router. i was NOT connected to the AP. Or must i make a connection to the AP wifi and then ping?

ping from router:

PING 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1): 64 data bytes

72 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=0.592 ms
72 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=128 time=0.643 ms
72 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=128 time=0.56 ms
72 bytes from 192.168.0.1: icmp_seq=4 ttl=128 time=0.563 ms

---192.168.0.1 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received,0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 0.56/0.589/0.643 ms

PING 1.1.1.1 (1.1.1.1): 64 data bytes

72 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=14.985 ms
72 bytes from 1.1.1.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=128 time=22.116 ms

---1.1.1.1 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received,0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 13.824/16.381/22.116 ms

ping from cmd:

ping 192.168.0.1

Pinging 192.168.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.0.1: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=64

Yes, you have to be connected to the AP's wi-fi so these pings make sense.

You can do it either through the router's diagnostics menu or the desktop's command prompt.

I dug up an old threat about C3200 in AP mode. The OP experienced the same issue but only through the wireless connected devices.

Although it is stated in the C3200 specifications:

There seems to be no Access Point mode selectable in the device's management interface.

when i ping on 1.1.1.1 i get the pop up "no dsl/ethernet link configuration"

i use lan ip: 192.168.0.254 and subnet 255.255.255.0 IGMP Snooping: ON

@soundshaper213

Did you change the LAN IP address of the AP router from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254 ?

Let me recap the configuration and actions.
The main C3200 is configured as follows:

WAN: Dynamic IP

LAN IP 192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.0

DHCP: 192.168.0.100 / 192.168.0.150

GW: 192.168.0.1

Configure the AP C3200 as described in this guide.

When you finished, the AP C3200 should have these settings:

WAN: do not configure

LAN IP 192.168.0.254 / 255.255.255.0

DHCP: disabled

1) Connect to AP C3200 wireless network with the desktop PC and do the pings:

ping 192.168.0.1

ping 1.1.1.1

2) Disconnect the desktop from AP C3200 wireless network.

3) Connect desktop by ethernet cable to the AP C3200 and do the same pings:

ping 192.168.0.1

ping 1.1.1.1

4) Post the results.

@terziyski

You're recap is right. that are my settings.

Did you change the LAN IP address of the AP router from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254 ?

Let me recap the configuration and actions.
The main C3200 is configured as follows:

WAN: Dynamic IP

LAN IP 192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.0

DHCP: 192.168.0.100 / 192.168.0.150

GW: 192.168.0.1

Configure the AP C3200 as described in this guide.

When you finished, the AP C3200 should have these settings:

WAN: do not configure

LAN IP 192.168.0.254 / 255.255.255.0

DHCP: disabled

1) Connect to AP C3200 wireless network with the desktop PC and do the pings:

ping 192.168.0.1

ping 1.1.1.1

above i did. and yesterday it worked. so i don't understand what went wrong.

only one thing is strange that when i disconnect the AP from LAN cable WORKING and put it away and after few days i reconnect the AP on the same LAN cable it doens't work any more on the same settings. So really strange. Even when i back up the AP settings and restore them.
