Cannot connect web interface to TL-WPA4220 v1

I managed to connect a TL-WPA4220 V1 (AV500) to a TL-WPA4220KIT V4 (AV600) setup and this works when i use wired connections on both extenders.
Also the 4220 (v4) can be logged on using the web interface and i have changed the SSID and password.
The problem i have though, is that i cannot use the web interface to update the SSID on the 4220 v1 and it only works with cable or with the default WiFi settings.
Not even after a factory reset.
It gives me the usual error:

Trying to Configure the Powerline Extender?
It looks like you may have run into an issue
If you're connecting to the Router directly, you will be unable to access the Powerline Extender's management page by using http://tplinkplc.net
Connect to the Powerline Extender wirelessly and try the link http://tplinkplc.net again.

Only the new 4220 (v4) can be configured via the web interface.
What is the problem you think?
PS. Also i cannot install or uninstall the tpPLC_Utility_Windows as there is a broken old installation. How can i fix that as well?
