I have a TL-WR902AC wifi router and i'm quite happy with it : the interface is complete and simple to use but I'd like to make 2 observations concerning the Wifi Guest mode : the only thing i'm interesting on with this router is to use this "special" mode (no need of client mode or accessing to my LAN for eg...)

 

1) I noticed that, to activate guest mode, you also have to enable the 2.4 GHz or 5GHz Wifi network (in the adequate sections in the left column of the interface) because if you don't do that you have an error message relating to an inexistent wifi network
But according to me there is a drawback to do this way because 2 different wifi networks are broadcasted then : the initial (2.4 or 5.0 Ghz) and the guest one.
I know that i can prevent the first one to broadcast its SSID and protect its access with a secure WPA password but it would be nice to only define a guest wifi network if needed.

 

2) The second suggestion is quite dependent from the first above. I guess that the wifi schedule time option for guest network mode is working like this : accepting or refusing client depending on time but i imagine the main wifi network (the one that is not defined as guest) is continuing to broadcast on a 24/24 - 7/7 basis
I would have prefer that outside the open hours defined in the schedule, wifi was shutting down. Benefits : better for health (no emission) and better for the planet (reduced power consumption) :-).

 

This 2 features are accessible on my ISP router though...

 

Could you think that guest network mode could be improved in a future firmware revision ?

 

Of course, if there is already a way to make it work as i'd like ;-) i will be happy to learn how to proceed.
