I would appreciate such a feature.
I mainly use prepaid SIM cards with my router.
To check the balance / remaining data transfer on my SIM card, I have to:
1. remove the SIM card from the router
2. put it in my phone
3. trigger a USSD command to check the balance
4. put the SIM card back to the router
5. wait for the network connection to establish.

Having a USSD or SMS feature built in the router would make life easier.

Lack of USSD (short codes) feature actually excludes TP-Link Archer MR-200 from the class it pretend to be. Even much more cheaper devices have this functionality. Almost all devices offered by mobile operators have USSD functionality (even most of mobile router devices). Lack of USSD in LTE device is completely shocking. If TP-Link has no plan to implement USSD I'll return my MR-200 to vendor.

@jkalmus  I have the same issue in mr200 hardware v1. but this is available in hardware version v2.   have u any info/method for upgrading this USSD feature in hardware version v1.
