I have bought 2 Archer AX53 recently. Earlier before this purchase, i had few posts to understand the mesh network concept.

 

I had got a link in which the topologies were explained to form a mesh network. Link - https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/697572.

 

As per the above link i am trying the topo3 method based on the locations of the routers.

 

One archer ax53 is kept at first floor and it is the main router of the mesh network which is in AP mode (wired from ISP modem _ GX brand). Exactly the same way how it is visible in topo3.

 

The second archer ax53 (latest purchase) is at ground floor and it is connected to the ISP modem by wire (Router mode). But when I try to connect this second one to the mesh network I am not able to get it done. Could you please support me ?

 

Should I have the second ax53 in router mode or AP mode to connect it to the mesh network ? In topo3, it says main is in AP mode and satellite in router mode. If I try wireless it works, but the speed is not great due to the concrete of the house. I request to help me in connecting the second archer ax53 to be added in the mesh network. 

Getting a wire from first archer ax53 is difficult, hence i prefer topo3 setup.

2 ethernet cables are connected from GX modem to WAN port on both the archer ax53.

Hi,

 

Can you please first connect the second Archer AX53 via wireless EasyMesh to the first Archer AX53 and verify that it is working? (albeit at slow speed)

 

Then go to the "Mesh Devices" screen of the first AX53 and verify the "Connection" icon for the Satellite AX53 shows a wireless connection ("signal bars" icon).

 

After that connect an Ethernet cable from the WAN port of the second Archer AX53 to a LAN port of the GX modem. 

 

Does the "Connection" icon for the Satellite AX53 now change from a wireless connection icon (signal bars) to an Ethernet port icon or not?

I had followed your steps. The second archer is connected to second archer in wireless, i could see the signal bars which was weak. 

 

After few mins I inserted the ethernet cable from GX modem LAN port to second archer WAN port. The signal bars got changed to ethernet port icon.
It took some mins to get reflected (5-10mins) in the main router network map.

 

So is my problem sovled ?

Because the first archer (AP mode WAN) is connected to the GX modem (LAN), I see 4 LEDs ON. The second archer (WAN) is connected to the GX modem (LAN) as per your steps. When I have wireless connection, I see 4 LEDs ON but when i connected the ethernet cable from GX WAN to second archer (LAN) , I see 5 LEDs ON.

 

And in tether app i dont see the connected devices reflect in the connected list for second archer AX53.

 

Let me know your thoughts pls.

Hi @manjtb350,

Thank you for reporting your issue to our community.

Please make sure both the Archer AX53 routers have been updated to Pre-release Firmware, referring to Pre-release Firmware for Archer AX53/AX58 Supports EasyMesh in AP Mode, Ethernet Backhaul, ECO Mode

If you didn't update firmware for both old router and new router, it is recommended that you should reset the new router firstly. After firmware updating, you should reset the new router again and add it as a satellite router.

Here is the FAQ for How to Build an Ethernet Backhaul Using Two EasyMesh Routers

Notes: When adding a new node to an EasyMesh network, please use the satellite router’s LAN port as the backhaul port. After the EasyMesh connection is built, all of the ports on the satellite router (WAN, LAN, WAN/LAN) can be used for Ethernet backhaul.

Thanks for the reply. But as I said in my above post. the main (WAN) and satellite router (WAN) connected to the ISP modem (LAN). Can i keep using the same ? or should i change something ?

Some router models have separate LEDs for each of their LAN ports. So for every device that is connected to a router's LAN port a separate LED would light up.

 

Usually networking devices have a label stuck to the underside or the backside of their body that shows a model name and/or number. Can you perhaps have a look and report back what model of GX router you have?

What is the number of the firmware version on your AX53? I remember previously a bug was reported that the Satellite AX53 only shows one connected device in the list, even if there were actually more clients connected.

Hi the LEDs that I talk about is the respective Archer routers. 

4LEDs ON - Archer AX53 (Main-APmode- GX WAN to Archer LAN)

4LEDs ON - Archer AX53 (Satellite - wirelessly connected to the Main Archer). 5LEDs ON, when I connect ethernet from GX LAN to this satellite WAN.

 

Both firware updated to 1.4.3 Build 20250314 rel.78903

Additionally, If i want to experience the security features of Archer AX53 what can I do ? Because the main router is in AP mode connected to the GX modem. Can I change the connectivity to experience the network features ?

  @manjtb350 Does GX see rhem both as sattelites?

Does GX support Ethernet backhaul?

If First AX is an Mesh Controller? If so then second AX has to be connected to LAN port in AX, not IN GX, so you need wires from first AX to second AX.

 

At my home: ISP_Router->BE230_in_AP_Mode_as_controller_master->2_LAN_Cables_to_two_AX53.
