Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.6.5 build 20241231 rel 41802

Hello, i have issues with my m4 setup. I have 6 m4 decos arranged like so:

Ips router

     Main Deco

          Switch

               Deco 1

               Switch

                    Deco 2

                    Deco 3

                    Deco 4

                         Deco 5

The house is long and the isp router is at one end and i cannot run cables for each deco so i have to daisy chain them like this using switches like this.

In the app, only 2 satelite decos show connected through ethernet. Not the same each time, if i reset one it switches to ethernet and another one switches to wireless.

Is there a limitation for the m4 where only 2 can be connected via ethernet? Should i upgrade the main deco? Would that work.

There does not seem to be am issue with the cables and it used to work fine 2 updates ago.

Any ideeas?

@Marvin_S Hey Marvin, thank you for the reply. I managed to figure it out but it was a pain. I was able to dig up the fact that these devices cause network loops for about 2 seconds. It is written on the tp-link site or in the community responses.

I got some very cheap switches that do not have stp/loop detection and all satelites are working on ethernet.

But it is kind of a shame the option to disable wireless backhaul is not available for such situations. In my case the satelites are so far apart that the signal is so week it is useless if a cable fails, but just enough to actually connect and cause this problem.

Hi, welcome to our community.

May I confirm that Deco1 always work via Ethernet Backhaul?

How does your Deco 5 connect?

Is the second switch connected to the first switch directly via Ethernet cable?

You may refer to the guide to check your network topology and switches: General questions about Ethernet Backhaul feature on your Deco

Thank you and best regards.

Hi, thanks for your further sharing.

Yes, there is no an option to disable Wireless Backhaul/Ethernet Backaul/Powerline Backhaul. Deco network will decide to use which Backhaul according to your actual network topology and environment.

Best regards.
