Connecting The X50-5G To Asus AC86U Router Via Ethernet & Power Lines
Tuesday
Model: Deco X50-5G
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.7

I'm trying to connect my desktop PC to my X50-5G with ethernet & a power lines. Although it's connected and I get both internet both through Wifi and ethernet, the speed is very slow. I'm getting approximately 35 Mbps up and down. My laptop will get around 150Mbps. The wifi will be slow because I've not got the antennas plugged in the motherboard's wifi adapter. I've currently got the Asus router in AP mode. I've set the everything to to automatic to prevent IP conflicts and bad configurations, because networking isn't my strong point.

Can someone please tell me how to configure my Asus RT-AC86U so it receives ethernet speeds from the X50-5G. The Deco is on the first floor of my property, because it gets a stronger signal and better speeds, so I thought I'd use powelines and ethernet to connect the two and I was expecting similar speeds, but 35 Mbps is less than a tenth of what my X50-5G receives.

Any advice much appreciated.

Hi, welcome to the community.

Deco X50-5G doesn't support Powerline, so I was a little curious about what you meant that:

"I'm trying to connect my desktop PC to my X50-5G with ethernet & a power lines."

"so I thought I'd use powelines and ethernet to connect the two and I was expecting similar speeds"

Back to the original post, do you want to say that the wireless speed from Deco X50-5G is not expected: ~30mbps when the Ethernet speed could reach 150mbps?

If the Asus RT-AC86U is set to AP mode, it just needs to be connected to the Deco X50-5G via an Ethernet cable, and it doesn't need extra configuration on the Deco.

By the way, Deco X50-5G supports bridge mode. It is also suggested to set Deco into "5G Bridge mode" and use Asus RT-AC86U as the wifi router to see whether it helps improve the wireless speed.

Thank you very much and best regards.

@David-TP Thank you for the reply David. I managed to get my Asus router connected to the X50-5G, but the two devices are completely incompatible. When my router says it's connected to the Deco Windows stares it's not connected, and when the router isn't connected to the Deco Windows states it is.

The connection completely screws everything up. I had to hard reset the X50-5G and literally uninstall & reinstall the app to resolve a slow speed issue with the X50-5G router. Even unplugging the power lines and turning off the Asus router would solve the slow speed of the X50-5G.

I've spent hours trying to resolve this issue. I've given up & ordered 3xX50 Pro satellites and a 2.5Mbps 5 port switch.

The bottom line is TP-Link products are no good for comparability unless you buy the same range. My Asus router and the Deco just screwed everything up. I guess this is purposely done as a way of ensuring people have to buy TP-Link accessories and when extending their networks.

I've had to bit the bullet, because without a workable AP and switch my CCTV system is down. I've learned a bit about networking though.
