ImageLooking for some expertise. I recently switched my home broadband to a TPLink Archer NX200 router with a giffgaff unlimited 5G data contract sim. I also have a separate giffgaff 5G contract for my phone.

My issue is that, despite (effectively) identical sim contracts, I’m typically getting 0.5-10mbps on my router and 50mbps on my phone. The router will very occasionally reach 50mbps. As I type, I’m getting <0.5mbps on the router and 49mbps on my phone, both at the same location.

I’m assuming giffgaff is delivering the same capacity on both sims, so it would seem like it’s the router that is constricting speeds. It is configured on out-of-the-box standard settings but I’m not sufficiently technical to know what to look for/tweak.

Any help very much appreciated. TYVM

Hi, welcome to our community.

Here are some suggestions for your reference:

1. When puting the sim card in phone, please check the band that the sim card is working on. Then, please put the sim card in the router, fix the same band and test speed from the router again.

2. Set mode as "5G Only" on the web UI of the router then check again.

3. Update firmware to latest according to the official website.

4. Try repositioning the router (e.g., near a window or high up) to improve signal reception

5. Contact giffgaff to confirm that the SIM card is configured in the router in a restricted manner.

You may also contact local technical support for direct help.

Thank you and best regards.

I did the same - cut the cord to Virgin Media and bought the NX 200. The difference is I went with a Smarty Mobile sim. I have Giffgaff on my phone and get a good 200-300Mb/s on it - but I thought I woud try Smarty, which is on the Three network, for a month in the NX200 since it's a little bit cheaper at £20 per month.

I just slotted in the sim and activated it. No configuration required. I get a constistantly over 500Mb/s, sometimes over 600Mb/s downstream, and 70-80Mb/s upstream. I'm quite blown away to be honest. What I save by leaving VM will pay for the NX200 in 5 or 6 months :]

Hope you get it figured out.
