Archer BE230 v1 - USB disk immediately becomes unavailable when in satellite mode
Archer BE230 v1 - USB disk immediately becomes unavailable when in satellite mode

My Archer BE230 v1 when in satellite mode (with BE550 v1 main router) recognizes a newly connected USB disk, but then immediately gives the messages "288009 Failed to read USB3" and "288753 Config importing failed", and the disk is unavailable. Disk size does not matter - whether it is 6TB or just a tiny pendrive. I then need to reset the BE230 from scratch in order to get it to work.
The problem occurs with both wired and wireless backhaul.
PS I tried to upload the syslog file, but can't.
PS In order to verify, I loaded the firmware 1.1.2 Build 20241211, but the problem remained the same.
PS All the HDDs and pendrives that I tried work perfectly on my PCs, and when attached to my BE550 routers/satellites.
PS The HDDs and pendrives were formatted in NTFS and exFAT.

Hello @Maciej,
Thank you for starting a new thread to discuss the USB sharing issue with your BE230.
Could you please test resetting and configuring the BE230 as the main router, then connect the USB disk to it? Will you be able to access and view the USB disk successfully? I'm unsure whether this issue stems from the EasyMesh network or the BE230's USB port, so your verification would be helpful.
Additionally, Please reformat the HDD to exFAT and create partitions of 2TB each, and then please check if you can access it.
When you mention that you need to reset the BE230, what exactly does that mean? Does it mean that after the reset, you'll be able to access and view the USB disk attached to it?
BTW, where are the error messages from? From the web GUI of the satellite BE230, or did you see them from the system log either from BE550 or BE230? Can I have a screenshot of it?

Thank you for responding, great to hear from you.
1) I will do as you ask and set up the BE230 as the main router, but right now I need to have my network up and running for work, so I will only be able to do this next week at the earliest.
2) In the meantime I have formatted the HDDs to exFAT and smaller partitions just to check, but the problem persists no matter the size and/or type of partition.
3) By resetting, I mean that I need to reset the BE230 to factory defaults and set it up from zero, because after connecting the HDD to its USB port, the BE230 becomes totally unresponsive in the GUI of the BE550; for example, when I try to reboot it, I get the message that it cannot be rebooted.
4) The messages are from the log of the BE230, like so:
The "Failed to read USB3" and "Config importing failed" are always repeated.

@Maciej Thank you for the quick update.

No problem. :-) Please verify that when it's convenient for you.

After connecting the HDD to the USB port of the BE230, did you attempt to access it before it became unresponsive?

1) I'll report immediately after I test the BE230 as the main router.
2) Yes, I did try to access the HDD. I was successful only once, for a few minutes, and then the HDD became unresponsive. Like I wrote previously - neither the size, formatting nor brand of the HDD/pendrive matter, it just disappears.

Thank you. I'll wait for your test. :-)
BTW, we did receive similar feedback from another BE800 user that when he unselected some subfolders, he could no longer send files to the HDD attached to his BE800 and it showed errors that there was not enough space. However, when he selected all subfolders, the transfer files worked with no problems. I was wondering if this is the same case that you're experiencing. Can you verify that?

OK, but just to be clear - I do not have a BE800, just two BE550 routers; one is the main router, and the other is a wireless satellite, and they both work excellently.
Besides, I do not have a problem with some folders - the BE230 just can't load the HDD/pendrive properly.

Yes, I remember you're using the BE230 and BE550. I mentioned that the cases would be similar.
Thank you for the clarification and now I understand that the situation is different.

I just had a half-hour to test the BE230 as the main router, so I took my chance.
I checked out an A-Data pendrive (30 GB) and a Seagate HDD (6 TB), both of which work without any problems on my PCs and on the BE550 units (and I have also used them on an AX11000 and an AX95).
Unfortunately, they cannot be mounted on the BE230, the problem is the same.

@Maciej Hi. can i ask are you running the drives from the one host or are you trying to run one usb drive on both hosts?
Try running only one device from the usb as loading two maybe an issue with the DLNA fighting eachother on the same network? I cant say 100% if this would happen as I have always had one share on my netwoks even with a second host attached.
Give that a try and if either one runs fine without the other then that could be the issue.
all the best,
paul

Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly, but the only weak link in my chain is the BE230 - if I attach a drive/drives to either BE550, everything works as it should.
Thanks!
