TP Link BE550 - Blocking Traffic?
TP Link BE550 - Blocking Traffic?
Hi,
I have three BE550's configured in a MESH network supporting circa 60-70 wired & wireless devices at any one time. When I installed the BE550, our house security system (RISCO Cloud) stopped working. The BE550 sits behind a BT SmartHub which we need for the digital voice service and I assumed that the RISCO cloud service no longer liked a Double NAT scenario. However we tested (by connecting a very long ethernet cable) the BT SmartHub directly to the alarm IP module and it worked.
I have since removed the SmartHub from the setup so that the BE550 is now the primary router to which all other points and switches in the property connect to. I first added some port forwarding and then set up DMZ for the alarm IP module and yet it still won't work. Every other cloud based system works (Google Home, Hue, Hive etc).
Is there a way of finding out if the BE550 is somehow blocking traffic? I can't see why, especially with DMZ set but I am now in a protracted argument with the alarm installer who believes it's a network issue. If other services didn't work I might accept it but everything else works perfectly.
Interestingly, when pinging the IP address of the alarm IP module (from within the BE550), the request times out and yet the device is showing in the list of devices 'live' on the network.
I don't know what else to do now!
Many thanks
Andrew

I agree with your opinion about BT Smart HUb as a main router but that would be a definitive way to exclude any port-forwarding issues.
Otherwise, I would disable the HomeShiekd and Parental Controls features to exclude any possibility that these can interfere with the alarm system.

Hi @a.wright,
May I know what is the model of the Alarm IP module?
Please take screenshots with DMZ, port forwarding settings and send here.
Please try to change DNS of router:How to Change the DNS servers on the wireless router

Hey Andrew,
That sounds really frustrating! Since you've already tried port forwarding and even put the alarm module in DMZ, it does seem odd that it's still not working—especially when everything else on your network is fine.
A couple of things you could check:
-
Firewall Settings on the BE550 – Even with DMZ, some routers still have security rules that could be blocking traffic. Try temporarily disabling the firewall (just to test) and see if it makes a difference.
-
Double-check IP Address & DHCP – Make sure the alarm module has a static IP assigned and that it's not conflicting with another device.
-
Try a Different Port – If RISCO Cloud uses a specific port, make sure it's actually open. Maybe test with another device on the same port.
-
Ping from Another Device – If the BE550 itself can't ping the alarm module, maybe try pinging it from a laptop or another device on the same network and see if it responds.
-
Check RISCO Cloud Logs – If possible, check if there’s any log or status update on the RISCO side that could hint at what's wrong.
It’s weird that everything else is working fine except this one device. Might be worth reaching out to RISCO support too, just in case they have any known issues with the BE550.
Hope this helps a bit! Let us know what you find.

@Joseph-TP
May I know what is the model of the Alarm IP module?
The alarm IP module was replaced (as the old one was suspected faulty). I can't seem to post the link so image below. It can be found on the RISCO website.
Please take screenshots with DMZ, port forwarding settings and send here.
Please set a static IP for the Module
Static IP address has been set (all my wired devices have Static IPs).
As I set up DMZ, I removed the port forwarding settings however the ports that were forwarded were:
33000 Out
34000 In
Please try to change DNS of router
Originally when the BE550 was sitting behind the SmartHub, DNS was set to Google. When the BT SmartHub was taken out of the equation and a PPPoE connection established via the ONT, DNS has automatically changed to:
Primary DNS: 81.139.56.100
Secondary DNS: 81.139.57.100
I believe these are the BT DNS servers so essentially, they have been changed. Interestingly, I can now see no way of manually changing the DNS from within the BE550. Advanced settings now just brings up a "Secondary Connection" set of boxes.
I hope all the above helps!
Thanks

Oddly I can now seemingly Ping the IP address of the Alarm device from my main PC (wired) but still not from the router itself. Traceroute does not work either from the router but it does from my PC.
I have tried all the other stuff you have suggested previously but will do so again now the BT SmartHub is out of the picture!
