I’m struggling to set up Ethernet backhaul for my mesh network at home. I have the following equipment:

• Starlink for internet

• Deco XE75 Pro as the main Deco

• TP-Link SG2016P switch

• 2 Deco X50 PoE units

I was able to configure the Wi-Fi mesh quite easily, and I attempted to set up Ethernet backhaul, which I read should be straightforward. However, I encountered issues.

My setup:

• The Decos are in router mode.

• The Deco X50 PoE units are connected to the PoE ports on the switch (without any additional power supply).

• The main Deco is connected to port 16 on the switch.

• The X50 PoE units are connected to ports 1 and 6.

The issue:

• The X50 PoE units are only recognized in Wi-Fi mesh mode, not as Ethernet backhaul.

• The switch shows ports 1 and 6 as PoE only, with “Link Down” status.

It seems that the X50 PoE units are not recognizing the Ethernet connection. Any insights or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!

the topology i'm using:

this is the status on my mesh with the wifi connections:

this is the indicates the ports used on the SG2016P switch, port 16 holds the connection with the main deco, and ports 1 and 6 holds the X50 PoE Decos pointed as only PoE with Link Down:

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.

Since SG2016P is an L2 switch, have you configured any advanced settings, like VLAN on the switch?

And I noticed there was a feature called "STP blocking", which is used to prevent network loops. At the earlier stage of Ethernet Backhaul on the Deco, there is a temporary state where both WiFi and Ethernet connection exist which might be recognized as the network loop. So I hope you can try to disable the "STP Blocking" on ports 1 and 6 to see whether it helps.

Wait for your reply and best regards.

Hi David, thanks for the insights. I managed to find the settings for STP and loopback detection and turned them off, but the Decos are still in Wi-Fi mesh mode.

I tried disabling them directly on the ports by creating a new profile, then applied the changes to all ports and the VLAN configuration, but I still couldn’t get the Decos to switch to Ethernet backhaul.

I'm sharing the configurations I have to check if is anything else to correct.

Additional note: I’m using Cat6 Ethernet cables with T568B wiring.

The following image shows the configuration of the profile I created for the Decos without loop detection, as well as the VLAN settings where I disabled Loopback Detection and Spanning Tree.

and the configurations for the VLAN where I removed the Loopback detetion and the Spanning Tree.

Hi, Thanks for the update.

I checked the attached pictures and all the configurations seem correct.

For now, I don't have any further suggestions and would like to forward your case to the senior engineers for further assistance.

Please check whether you could receive my email.

Best regards.
