8960 wireless mode problem

ISP : Talk Talk
When 'bgn' or 'n only' mode is selected the downstream speed is around 6.5 - 7Mbps. When 'bg' is selected the speed is 'normal' at around 19Mbps over wireless and ethernet.
The original (replaced) router works fine in any mode - and was set to n mode - this issue only happens using the 8960. I'd like to use the n capabilities so any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.
