PS5 connection issue

G'day, I got new wifi extender today (tp link axe5400) I'm having issues connecting my PS5 to the network. I've tried all different bands 2.4, 5 and 6GHz, some tend to connect but have very low download speeds 18kbs.
As soon as I remove the password from the 5GHz band the ps5 connects and caps out my download speed. I've tried using different security protocols (not all) on the extender but still run into the painfully slow download speeds.
Does anyone have a viable solution I don't want to run my extender with no password.
All my other devices work fine. With or without security settings.

Hi, welcome to our community.
You may check the exact model from the back label of the range extender and share us.
Did you set the same SSID for different wireless bands for the range extender and your main router?
Can your PS5 connect to different wireless bands of your main router properly and does the speed act normally?
BTW, as I know, sometimes port forwarding needs to be take for PS5 for internet access or online game.
Thank you and best regards.

I have exactly the same issue on the same extender used under easymesh with a GE800 gaming router. My PS5 refuses to download above 10-11Mbps and struggles to connect. Clearly something is going on as my S24 connects fine to the extended verified in the TP link app and sees 85% of the available download speed. It is clearly a problem between the extender and PS5. I was considering purchasing the new wifi 7 tri band extender but if this will just happen on that as well I'm not likely to waste 200 plus dollars to recreate the same issue I already have.

Hi, thanks for posting question here.
Could you check the model on the label of your range extender and share us?
If your PS5 is experiencing slow download speeds, here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and improve performance:
-
Check Internet Speed: Use a speed test on another device to ensure your internet connection is performing well overall.
-
Restart Devices: Restart your PS5, router, and the extender.
-
Use Ethernet Connection: If possible, connect your PS5 directly to the router using an Ethernet cable for a more stable connection.
-
Change Wi-Fi Band: If you’re on the 2.4GHz band, try switching to the 5GHz band for potentially better speeds.
-
Update Software: Ensure your PS5 is running the latest system software. Go to
Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings
. -
Limit Background Downloads: Pause or cancel any downloads or updates running in the background on your PS5.
-
Adjust DNS Settings: Change the DNS settings on your PS5 to a public DNS like Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1).
-
Quality of Service (QoS) Settings: If your router has QoS settings, prioritize the PS5 for bandwidth allocation.
-
Check Network Congestion: Disconnect other devices from the network temporarily to see if that improves your PS5's speed.
-
Factory Reset: If all else fails, consider resetting your PS5 to factory settings, but remember to back up your data first.
If the suggestions above help little, it is suggested to contact local technical support team for further confirmation.
Thank you for your cooperation and best regards.

I have tried all of that long ago to no avail.
The model was an RE815X but the issue is moot as I upgraded to a RE655BE and that extender has no issue. RE815X is gathering dust on backup shelf.
