Model: TL-MR6400
Hardware Version: V7
Firmware Version: TL-MR6400(EU)_V7_240227

Hello,

I have a TL-MR6400 V7 router - https://www.tp-link.com/en/home-networking/3g-4g-router/tl-mr6400/
I've already updated the firmware using this link: https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/tl-mr6400/

I need a device with two specific features:

  • Built-in SIM card slot: This is necessary because I need to insert a SIM card from my ISP to get internet and share it with all the computers connected to this router;
  • Cellular Bridge Mode or WDS (Wireless Distribution System): I want to use my smartphone as a hotspot and share this internet connection with all the computers connected to the router through cable;

I've explored all the menus on my TL-MR6400 V7, but I couldn't find a way to set up this "cellular bridge mode" functionality. I found some information online, including this discussion: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/231656

My request for help is: Which router should I choose that meets these two requirements? (I am in Europe)

Thank you

Hi, welcome to our community.

TL-MR6400 V7 does not support bridge mode or WDS.

I am afraid that no home model can meet your needs currently.

Thank you and best regards.

  @Marvin_S Thank you for your support

What options do I have to grab a Wi-Fi signal from a hotspot or other router and share it with my router TL-MR6400?

I am looking for this solution https://www.tp-link.com/en/home-networking/wifi-router/tl-wr902ac/

What do you think?

Thank you

Hi, thanks for your update.

I am afraid no option for TL-MR6400.

From the specs of TL-WR902AC, it supports several working modes. Range extender may meet your needs.

And you may refer to the guide: How to configure TL-WR902AC as Range Extender

Thank you and best regards.

  @Marvin_S Hey there,

I am thinking using it as "Client mode": https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1504/

Because I want to grab the wi-fi signal (from other router or my smartphone) and provide this signal to my router: TL-MR6400

What do you think?

Hi, client mode should be ok. But the final performance is hard to say, as it is not a typical network topology for TL-MR6400.

Best regards.

  @Marvin_S What do you mean here? "But the final performance is hard to say, as it is not a typical network topology for TL-MR6400." Could you explain with more detail? Thank you
