The Archer AX72 V1 is one of several Archer routers that use the IPQ5018 SoC. WireGuard and OpenVPN performance used to be dismal on these router models with early firmware versions, but has been improved steadily by TP-Link.
I can't remember the exact performance numbers I got with the 1.2.x firmwares on the AX55 V1 and AX53 V1, but with the 1.3.x firmware versions WireGuard performance has improved to over 100 Mbps.

But don't ask me if and when a improved 1.3.x firmware will be released for the AX72 V1. Nobody knows.

Yeah the speed for this is dreadful... If they dont sort it out I may have to replace it with another router ha! Do you have any suggestions on one lol!

I don't know how the really expensive Archer routers fare, but these home-grade routers are not primarily designed for VPN.
