Model: Archer AX58
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.4 Build 20240509 rel.64683(4555)

Hello everyone.

I just bought a TpLink Archer AX58 (AX3000) router.

I have it perfectly configured and updated to the latest firmware and everything works fine, except for the router time. After each reboot of the router and forced shutdown of the wifi during the night, I get the time of the latest firmware 05-09-2024.

No matter what option I put: get from the internet (either by web address time.google.com or by IP 216.239.35.0), it does not get the current time correctly; if I tell it to get the time from the management device (in this case my PC), it gets it correctly and puts the current date and time, but when I restart the router, it returns to the incorrect date of 05-09-2024... If I tell it the manual time, it gets it correctly, but when I restart it, it returns to the incorrect date and time of 05-09-2024.

Anyone else having this problem? I have warranty, but it took me a long time to set it up and I need it for work and I'd like to know if anyone else who has this problem has managed to solve it in some way...

Thank you very much in advance. Regards.

Problem with router time update

Re:My TPLink Archer AX58 router does not remember the router time-Solution

I have already solved it and it was not a malfunctioning problem.

Initially I connected this router by cable to a yellow LAN port from the main router of the operator, as I have done with hundreds of routers from other brands that I have configured as wifi extenders. And everything worked fine, except for the time update on the router. The router told me that it had no internet, which was not true because both the PC next door by cable and the wifi mobiles connected perfectly.

After a thousand tests, I decided to connect the cable from the main router to the blue WAN port and that was when the router told me that it had internet and also updated the time of the router correctly and kept it after router restarts. This forced me to put the router in AP mode no matter what and now everything works. I hope it helps more people. Thanks.

Hi,

Do you remember if the time could be syncronized via the Internet before you modified the Servidor NTP I entry? (I mean with the router's default settings)

Can you try with a NTP server that is located in your country?   https://www.ntppool<dot>org/zone/europe   (make sure to choose an address that actually has active servers available)

Is your Archer AX58 directly connected to the Internet or is there another router between the AX58 and the Internet?

By the way, the time being reset on reboot is normal. Wi-Fi routers normally don't have a dedicated timekeeping device built in. The time is kept only by the operating system, hence the time is lost when the OS is being restarted.

Thanks for answering me Woozle.
I'll tell you:
I bought the router yesterday and when I configured it with the quick configuration I realized that it didn't update the time correctly over the internet using the two NTP servers that came by default: uk.pool.ntp.org and europe.pool.ntp.org. Then I tried with other better known ones like time.windows.com, time.apple.com, time.google.com... And even with their IPs like Google's 216.239.35.0 and nothing at all, it doesn't update the time or the day (putting the release date of the latest firmware), it always shows the error: Get time from NTP server time exceeded.

This router is not directly connected to the internet. It is a router that I use as a secondary router to distribute wifi in the rest of my house. It is connected by ethernet cable to the main fiber router of the operator.

And it only updates the time correctly if I tell it to do it through the management device (the PC) or I indicate the time manually. But the next time the router is restarted (not the PC), it loses that time from the router and indicates again the time of the release of the firmware that it has installed 05/09/2024.

Any other ideas? Does anyone else have this router that I can try to see if the same thing happens to them?

Ok, I see.

Actually this is quite normal behavior on TP-Link's routers. They only recognize an Internet connection when the cable is plugged into the blue WAN port.

Besides the router's time synchronization there are other features that will not work when the router is being connected the way you originally did.
