Wifi range and transmit and receive link speed issue
Hello TP-Link Community,
I recently upgraded to the Archer BE230 Wi-Fi 7 router, but I’ve been experiencing some frustrating issues with Smart Connect. Here’s what’s happening:
When I move away from the router, my device correctly switches from 5GHz to 2.4GHz because the 5GHz signal weakens (-86dB). However, once connected to 2.4GHz at a much better signal strength (-62dB), my transmit and receive speeds suddenly drop to just 8Mbps—making the internet unusable.
What’s even stranger is that when the 2.4GHz signal is around -74dB, Smart Connect forces me back to 5GHz, even though it’s at a weaker -86dB signal. The 5GHz link speed is only 11Mbps at this point, so the switch makes no sense.
Why is Smart Connect choosing a weaker signal when 2.4GHz still has a strong connection? Also, why does my 2.4GHz speed drop so drastically from 400+Mbps to 8Mbps when I move slightly further from the router?
For reference, my previous Archer A7 handled Smart Connect perfectly, switching seamlessly between bands without these speed drops.
Has anyone else faced this issue, or is there a setting I should tweak to improve band selection and maintain better speeds? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
