Phone connection to Archer AXE75
Phone connection to Archer AXE75
I have just purchased an Archer AXE75 router to add to my TP-Link collection and set it up. The issue I have is there seems to be no means of connecting my Panasonic KX-TGJ322 cordless DECT phone to the router to be able to use the phone. The phone has a normal plug (RJ11?) on the cable and this used to plug straight into the dedicated phone socket on the back of my BT Hub2 router. The Archer AXE75 does not have one. I have digital voice set up with BT, my ISP which was working fine up until the change of router..
I have bought an RJ11 to Ethernet (RJ45) adaptor cable and plugged it into one of the Ethernet ports on the AXE75, but this does not work and the phone remains unusable.
I just need to know what items I require and what I have to do to get a serviceable phone.
I've done a bit of research but it's all a bit confusing for this aging pensioner. A DECT base station has been mentioned as well as VoIP ATA Adapters and patch network leads RJ11 to RJ45.
Please, can anybody out there help?

Hi I'm also BT but I don't have the voip/phone line so I'm just running pure tp link setup.
I could be mistaken but I don't think the tp link routers support voip phones,
If you want the bt voip phone line I'm pretty sure your locked into keep using their router.

Thanks for your response. I hope that isn't the case otherwise I've just wasted £120 on a router and I've still got 13 months left on the Digital Voice package with BT. Dilemma now: do I ditch the phone or the router? Trouble is our moibile network coverage round here is not so good.

Ahh that's a kick in the teeth,
I haven't been in the bt hub web gui so not sure if you can turn off the dhcp/wifi so it acts like a bridge and still have the phone connected in the bt hub so it still works and then use the tp link router as the main router.
You could possibly do a test to see if it works if not then you can decide what you want to do from there
In my opinion my router ( Ax72) is a far better quality then the bt hub

Hi,
You could leave the BT Hub 2 as it is (working as a router) and just connect the Archer AXE75 as a secondary router to one of the LAN ports of the BT Hub 2.
If you want the Archer AXE75 to be the sole source of Wi-Fi in your home, then, as Basboi85 mentioned, just switch the Wi-Fi of the BT Hub 2 off.
I know this setup is not the ideal solution, but if the service provider offers no alternative way to use their phone service, then that's the way it is.

Thanks, I'll try to do something along those lines. Running out of time today.

Thanks to you guys for your efforts but nothing worked. Having also now spoken to TP-Link technical, the top and bottom of it is the Archer AXE75 does not support VoIP and that's that. I also tried firing up the BT Hub2 and turning off Wi-Fi and then connecting an ethernet cable from the Hub2 to the WAN port on the AXE75; that didn't work either. The internet light just stayed amber and the phone said "check phone line". Ah well.
Anybobody want to buy a TP-Link Archer AXE75?

Wait. So you have the BT Hub 2 with the phone connected as usual (I mean before you got the AXE75) -> the phone and Internet work fine.
Then you merely connect an Ethernet cable from one of the BT Hub's LAN ports (labelled 1, 2, ...) to the blue WAN port of the AXE75 and suddenly the phone doesn't work anymore?
Have you ever before connected a computer or other network device to one of the LAN ports of the BT Hub 2? If yes, was the Internet working fine then?

And I should mention that if you have previously changed to "Internet Connection Type" of the Archer AXE75 to PPPoE, then you need to switch it back to "Dynamic IP" if the AXE75 is used as a secondary router behind the BT Hub 2 router.

Strange how turning the wifi off then bt hubs wifi still caused the phone not to work unless it connects wirelessly instead of the old aay of connecting the main base via cable to the phone port, then that would make sense as the bt phone would need to connect wirelessly to the bt hub to work.
As said above if the axe75 is now setup in router mode then you'll have to restart set it up in dynamic plus I'm sure you should be able to use it instead AP mode no ?

It depends on which features the OP intends to use. If nothing special is required, then AP mode would do. But features like Parental Controls, VPN and a few more would only be available in Router mode.
