I'm reporting addional issues with this firmware release. Basically the same problem as encountered in the original post (router fails to reconnect to ISP with PPPoE). However in this case, the same problem has been seen in my second router which is located in Greece and connects to a Greek ISP.

Therefore we can rule out issues related to my ISP in Japan.

The symptom seems to be if the modem gets disconnected from the service, and/or the line drops, the router either does not try to automatuically reconnect with PPPoE, or if it does, it gives up after a certain number of retries.

When that happens, the only way to reconnect the service is to log into the router via wifi or ethernet, go to Advanced > Network > Internet and click CONNECT. Connection to the ISP is immediate and normal operations resume. After that, when the router reboots, it does reconnect automatically. But if the line drop again, the router is left disconnected to the internet as PPPoE connection fails to occur automatically.

The problem with this is that it can only be recovered if you are physically present next to the router. Many people have routers deployed in remote locations and cannot always be physically there to fix this kind of problem. And there is no remote access fix possible as the router is not connected to the internet any more.

Please escalate this issue as it makes using these routers very impractical for remote locations. The router should continuously try to reconnect to PPPoE even if there is a failure. Perhaps retrying once per minute until the line comes back up.

Thanks.

Hello,

i am sorry for interfering over your post but since i am located in Greece i have seen that on every router reboot, it takes 2 times IP adresses from the ISP (Cosmote). Actually it seems that although it has already connected to the ISP and got and IP, without disconnecting, it opens a new PPOE session getting a new IP.

This is also causing problem with the DDNS service on reboot (for NO-IP at least). The DDNS is running with the first IP but not with the second probably because no disconnection is registered. So upon reboot end, the router has the second IP when NOIP stays with the first. The situation is resolved after an hour when the DDNS is running upon its schedule again. For this i have open the TKID250206919 ticket and i have send all relevant logs.

Now if there is no reboot for any reason but the ISP or the modem drops the connection, for me, BE550 does seem to reconect but after 10 to 15 minutes and as far as i have seen it reconnects with the same IP that it had (i don't know why or how but thats what i have seen happening 3 times).

For comparison my connection is vdsl and the BE550 is behind a speedport plus that is PPOE pass through enabled.

I dont know if these findings help, if not i am sorry for interupting

Thanks

Hi, I also have this router, but mine connects automatically, so I don't want to suggest that you haven't checked all the options in your router, but just in case, check if you have auto-connect mode enabled.
