RE220 - After firmware upgrade not possible to change extended network name
Hello,
after upggrading the firmware of my AC750 Mesh Wi-Fi Extender RE220 to 1.0.23 Build 230418 Rel. 60395n I can't update anymore the name of the extended network anymore: before FW upgrade I setup the extended network name to be the original network name plux _EXT, now it takes automatically the main network name and if I try to change it from the app, it gets overwirtten after a couple of seconds with main network name.
main router does not support Mesch feature.
Firmware issue?
Any idea?

Hi,
The behavior you describe usually only happens when the main router does support EasyMesh/OneMesh.
Would you mind telling us the brand and model of the router you have?

@woozle the model is:
Brand: ZTE
Name: ZTE Box
Model: ZXHN H2640W
and I don't see this in the list of the OneMash/EasyMesh supported router on your website so far.
Thanks!

It is still possible that ZTE may have added support for EasyMesh via a firmware update.
You can easily find out if this is the case when you log into the RE220, click on "Quick Setup" and go through it to the point where the RE220 scans for nearby networks. If you see an "EasyMesh" label next to the SSID of your ZTE router's Wi-Fi, then it means the ZTE router supports EasyMesh.

@woozle yes I checked this already and the router does not support Mesh, and with the previous extender firmware I didn't have such issue

Ok.
I would still test whether it makes any difference if the "EasyMesh" option of the RE220 is switched off via the menu shown below, just in case the RE220 somehow thinks the router supports Mesh when it doesn't.
If that doesn't help, then I think you can only solve this for now by downgrading to the previous firmware version. And hope that a future firmware version includes a fix.

Sorry for the late answer, I was not able to find this setting in the Tether mobile app but only in the web app and yes it worked apparently! So Mesh works also with certain not officially supported routers :-D
